Books for 6 year old

My daughter has just turned 6, she loves reading but I’m running out of ideas of what to give her.

She’s read all of Roald Dahls shorter stories (fantastic mr Fox, the magic finger etc) last night she read esio trot in one go.
She has done some Enid blyton and enjoys listening to me read some of the more grown up school books. She has also read the worst witch series.
I’m not sure if she would have the comprehension for the longer stories (maybe I’m underestimating her though). I’m basically giving her the books I read as a child.

Any ideas for more recent books and authors, we use the library weekly but we both get overwhelmed and end up choosing stories that I can read to her and her younger sister rather than Free reading ones.

We read DS ‘A Boy Called Christmas’ last year - this year he’s read ‘The Girl Who Saved Christmas’ to himself. Both by Matt Haig (and currently on a twofer at Tesco if you’ve a big one nearby). He’s also enjoyed the Clarice Bean books. Michael Morpurgo and Dick King-Smith would be a good shout too (they’re both pretty prolific, so if she likes them there’s plenty more).

DD loved the Rainbow magic books (even though the stories are dire- read one you've read them all......)

My 6 year old is living us reading him Sick King Smith at the moment. I found a couple of colle tions of short stories of his in the library this week. Going to try those.

My nearly 6 year old is currently reading my illustrated Harry Potter books.

He reads a few chapters at bed time to me and DD.

Had she read Billy and The Minpins by Roald Dahl?

Dd1 loves Kes Gray - Daisy & the trouble with series.

Yes, my DD loved Charlottes Web at that age. She also loved Danny Champion of the world. She was never fussed on the faraway tree series for some reason, talking spiders are fine but a magic land in the sky was a step too far!

My 6 yo dd loves mr men books - they are a good length for her to read 1 or 2 in bed.

She has rainbow magic but seems to prefer the animal magic type ones. Also traditional Cinderella, snow white etc.

101 Dalmatians might be good in the run up to Christmas.

If she liked 'The worst witch' then perhaps the Oliver Moon books? About a boy at magic school.

With the library we found that we quite often had to bring back books unread. But that's ok! Also I found that DS would sometimes finish reading a book that I had started reading to him, if I stopped at a cliffhanger/if reading was the only way to postpone lights-out.

Also I think it's great to continue reading to your child even once they can and do read to themselves. In our house these days I often find myself reading a book to DS that I thought he'd read himself, whereas that book that I thought I'd read to him, he has finished before I ever got a chance... It's fine if you end up reading the library books to her. As long as you are both enjoying yourselves :)
