Can anyone suggest something? English is not his first language so not too hard!

The Iron Man - Ted Hughes
Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep - Philip K Dick
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
Enders Game - Orson Scott Card
Howl's Moving Castle - Diana Wynne Jones
The Host - Stephanie Meyer
Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury
Stardust - Neil Gaiman
Never where - Neil Gaiman
Z for Zachariah - Robert C O'Brien

Just off the top of my head.

Chocky, John Wyndham

I wouldn't suggest Philip K Dick or Farenheit 451 for a 12 year old reading in his 2nd language! Agree Hitchhikers Guide is fantastic for that age, though again the language might be a bit hard.

Thinking of specifically YA sci-fi novels, dd really enjoyed the Insignia series by SJ Kincaid.

allegretto · 29/06/2017 18:40

He's already started Do Androids Dream..and says he enjoying it. Did you mean because of the language barrier or because it's not suitable? He probably actually isn't behind with his reading more his slang!

He's already read and enjoyed Hitchhikers.

The belgariad series by David eddings

Sadik · 29/06/2017 19:57

Oh no, not unsuitable - was just thinking of the language.

(DD is the opposite so probably not a good comparison - she mainly uses her second language spoken, so no problem with slang Wink but certainly at that age would have struggled reading anything beyond YA lit.)

Oh that's good to know! I hoping that ds will get a chance to talk in English with kids his age, so he sounds a bit more natural!

I loved Chocky!

He could try Ender's game

werekitty · 29/06/2017 20:19

I loved John Wyndham (midwich cuckoo's and triffids), John Christopher (tripods), Robert Heinlein (time for the stars) and David Eddings.

S. F. Said's Phoenix
