Suggestions for 'interesting' books for level-1/2 reader?

Hi,

My daughter is 5 years old in a month. She hates learning to read but loves watching YouTube about all kinds of topics (dinosaurs, back-yard science, maker channels, volcanoes, robots, space, human biology, how things work, etc., etc.).

Can anyone suggest level 1/2 books that may be a bit more interesting than, "I put on my hat. I put on my shirt. I go out."?

This is a girl who recognized the Mandelbrot set while watching Big Hero 6 several months after I showed here a YouTube Mandelbrot zoom. Reading books like that just isn't catching her attention! ;-)

I know this seems contradictory, but I'm looking for books with simple words but topics such as dinosaurs, volcanoes, space, etc.

Many thanks for any suggestions (I didn't find anything yet),
Dan.

Try DK readers, all sorts of non-fiction topics and reasonably easy to read.

like this

dinosaurs

Volcanoes

Space

Hello, I'm not sure whether this is helpful but we went through the Julia Donaldson songbirds books (they go up to level 6).

Although not all about volcanoes etc, they are still pretty good. In fact, one of the books was about Tadpoles. Plus it was about £17 for 36 books (from Amazon / The Book People) so really a bit of a bargain.

She might like "On the Launchpad" - which is a favourite for my son at the moment. There might be a couple of words that aren't within the level but if you read it with her you can help with those. It's basically a countdown to launching a rocket.
