Recommendations for 7 year old boy not quite at Roald Dahl stage

...He's a good reader but possibly needs something a bit shorter or has more pictures than Roald Dahl type books but but he's board of Julia Donaldson and alike.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Australian author. Andy Griffiths. Start with the 13 story treehouse series. They are awesome

You can get short versions of some books that are really good. Like this.

Cressida Cowell's How to Train Your Dragon series, they are fantastic books and very funny.

As an EngLit MA student I can honestly say Dahl and Dickens can F off . I loved milky molly mandy if he's not gendered

Dick King-Smith books are a step before Dahl imo. Mainly animal based stories.

I think how to train your dragon a similar or harder level than roald Dahl (certainly harder than the twits, etc)
My 6 and 8 year old like the early readers in those massive sets you can get from book people.

Also try cartoons? Mine like asterix and Garfield. Also they loved nuts in space and weasels by Elys Dolan (picture books but a bit older than Julia d)
Oh and also the harder Dr Seuss.

Dinosaur cove i haven't seen mentioned.
And yes to treehouse adventures, beast quest, horrid Henry. There is also a whole set of early readers.

I'd say train your dragon is harder than the shorter Dhal books (twits, magic finger, giraffe pelly and me)

Flat Stanley is fun.
