Rob Biddulph's beautiful new picture book Odd Dog Out is all about blazing a trail, and being who you are. To celebrate its publication, we're asking you to share how your mini superstars dare to be different.

It's a dog's life in the big city but one dog doesn't quite fit in. It's lonely being the odd dog out when all she wants to do is find her place in the world. She's willing to travel far on her quest, but it might take a different kind of journey for her to realise that maybe she's exactly where she needs to be.

A sublimely sunny and exquisitely illustrated tale about fitting in and standing out, from the award-winning and tremendously talented Rob Biddulph.

We'd love to hear how your little ones to express their individuality (and how you help them to do so) - whether it's insisting on wearing their favourite character costume 24/7 or only eating certain coloured food. For a chance to win a copy of Odd Dog Out and £100 voucher to spend at John Lewis, just tell us on this thread.

This discussion is sponsored by HarperCollins and will close at midday on 22 February

Singing - doesn't matter where we are but my DD will burst into song

meggysar · 21/02/2017 08:21

Both mine insist on wearing their football boots (studs removed thankfully) every day!

vincenta · 21/02/2017 09:20

My 7 years old loves history, science facts,he is very curious and sometimes just can't stop in searching new information and later using it.He told that once even his teacher told him use less history facts in literature lesson.

Our son like to break from the trend....if all the kids at school are into Pokemon, he'll prefer something less mainstream. Same with fashion too!! I love his uniqueness x

mumpetuk1 · 21/02/2017 13:57

They get dressed themselves at the weekends, lots of individuality right there!!

freedomofspeech · 21/02/2017 14:53

She likes doing her very own form of breakdancing!

sarahw2 · 21/02/2017 15:27

My son wears one sock. Always one sock only. It drives me bonkers!!!

bigarse1 · 21/02/2017 15:41

wearing a party dress while going on a skateboard, climbing stupidly high up stuff and doing karate!
twins who cant eat and don't let it stop them. they are individuals and never let their disability stop them. they laugh more than any children I know and conquer everything while wearing the most interesting outfits! they are very individual in that they survive on about 4 hours sleep a night so we are often at the park at 6am in the summer - we try to make the world fit them rather than them fit the world

our daughter has sensory so no matter the weather she will often be found wearing sandals. You can imagine the looks we get when we are out in the winter.

windowmouse · 21/02/2017 18:20

Insisting on choosing their clothes and sometimes what we call him!

baconbap · 21/02/2017 18:56

art, there's no room left on the fridge

fazkin · 21/02/2017 19:17

My DS has grown up seeing his big sister obsess over pink so he has firmly claimed the "boy" colours which according to him are green, blue and yellow. Everything with that colour is his and he only wears those colours too.

piggypoo · 21/02/2017 19:36

Our DD, who's 3, goes through her Nana's wardrobe, and insists on wearing this awful 1970's purple glittery nylon blouse, she loves it! and has developed an obsession with my old fascinators, which she calls "attractors" and puts them on her head, and on her teddy's, and they have tea with this big knitted dolly, called Mrs. Machin!.

YerTiz · 21/02/2017 19:38

My eldest DS (6) wants to grow his hair long, and loves rock music. But his favourite song is Paul Simon's 'Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard'.

Meffy · 21/02/2017 20:08

DS9 has ADHD ABD HF ASD. If he gets excited he jumps up and down and flaps his arms... he needs the sensory stimulation and feedback. If he's anxious he slaps the bottom of his feet. When he grows up he wants to be a photographer.

DS7 has severe ASD and a gene mution and cerebral palsy .... when someone gets too close to him in his wheelchair he might grab them .. he one grabbed a guy by the testicles! When he grows up, wants to be more awesome than he is now!

DD5 is NT and loves to paint, draw, write stories, cut up paper, make models, dance, song and she's a yellow belt at Kuk Sool Won ... so she's a little ninja princess! When she grows up she wants to be an author!

Three very very different children with very lovely traits... I'm so lucky .... well maybe not the ball grabber ... that man was a little bit upset !

clarabella12 · 21/02/2017 20:38

my littlest does it by singing and dancing all the time! her head teacher at school calls her a disney princess and says she wishes she lived in Mila's world as it's so full of life and happy :)

slbhill42 · 21/02/2017 21:24

"crazy" socks (ie. non matching). I count myself lucky!! LOL

nanoobaku · 21/02/2017 21:31

being autistic and non verbal it's through art and showing on paper he's view of the world

pinkspideruk · 21/02/2017 21:36

D as a boy likes to paint his nails in different colours and is equally happy playing princess dress up with H as he is having a nerf gun war or playing football - we encourage both D and H to play with the toys and do the activities they want rather than go for gender specific things

natholland82 · 21/02/2017 21:42

My son discovered michael jackson... he tries to do all the little michael jackson moves. But most recently, he's been asking to get a leather jacket - like the one in BAD. I didn't go so far, but we did reconstruct a "BAD-like," outfit - complete with fingerless gloves. He did a little show for us. The first ever concert I went to, was a Michael Jackson concert when I was six years old - it was a pretty incredible experience for a little child. We didn't even have a Michael Jackson album in the house - but somehow, my son heard the music and is now a huge fan. :D

ceroooss · 21/02/2017 21:44

My girl likes wearing funky tights of different designs and patterns- she is very particular and you know what mood she's in with whatever pair she chooses for the day!!

redstararnie76 · 21/02/2017 21:48

By wearing what he fancies - on occasion he''s been 'princess spiderman', complete with high heels, tiara and spiderman mask!

Dessallara · 21/02/2017 22:06

My daughter loves to choose her own clothes

Pickofthepops · 21/02/2017 22:10

My daughter is Gabriella - Gabby - but she insists that her name is Babby. She is a great character and since she could talk she has sung. She has learnt many nursery rhymes and other classics. She delivers all,of these in what I can only describe as the club style - think Vic Reeves, crooning, some words being odd variations of themselves. All with a massively impish grin. She makes me grin so much -)

TiggersAngel7774 · 21/02/2017 23:25

my sons fav colour is green so things like despite school uniform being red we got him green book bag with school logo on. Also help him always know his own bag
