Rob Biddulph's beautiful new picture book Odd Dog Out is all about blazing a trail, and being who you are. To celebrate its publication, we're asking you to share how your mini superstars dare to be different.

It's a dog's life in the big city but one dog doesn't quite fit in. It's lonely being the odd dog out when all she wants to do is find her place in the world. She's willing to travel far on her quest, but it might take a different kind of journey for her to realise that maybe she's exactly where she needs to be.

A sublimely sunny and exquisitely illustrated tale about fitting in and standing out, from the award-winning and tremendously talented Rob Biddulph.

We'd love to hear how your little ones to express their individuality (and how you help them to do so) - whether it's insisting on wearing their favourite character costume 24/7 or only eating certain coloured food. For a chance to win a copy of Odd Dog Out and £100 voucher to spend at John Lewis, just tell us on this thread.

This discussion is sponsored by HarperCollins and will close at midday on 22 February

MY SON CHOOSES ALL HIS CLOTHES. LIKES WORKING OUT IF HIS CLOTHES MATCH. NOW EVEN STYLES HIS OWN HAIR.

Leaving little drawings everywhere, sometimes on paper or just on any surface he can when we're not looking!

My daughter from a young age has always been very clear about what she wants to wear and what goes with what. She has a funky style :)

Always amazed me having three girls they could all be so different. The eldest was independent and never stopped talking. Daughter number two somewhat quieter used her beautiful blue eyes to get attention from all and was a born actress. Baby daughter number three was very strong willed and just got on and did things regardless so her iron will strength has served her well and given me many challenges!

my little girl dances away in her own unique style pretty much everywhere, whilst making up her own songs too

My daughter decided to cut her hair with child safety scissors. Her fringe was hacked to bits and she took chunks out of the rest if her hair. She was very proud of herself! Xx

She has a huge array of hats, her favourite at the moment is a pink glittery cowboy hat! She cant leave the house without one!

By making up weird poems and songs!

My Daughter hates matching things from odd socks to clashing fabrics shes a rebel

mysticwen · 22/02/2017 11:53

With quirky hats the more odd the better, personalised with badges, buttons, feathers whatever she can lay her hands on. I do have to take some responsibility as I love hats too.

I encourage my child to create her own play and let her daydream and think without filling up her time with toys, electronics and screens. Instead of buying her a costume or props for a play, I prefer and let her come up with ideas of her own to create them from things around the house. Works every time and helps with imagination!!

Children doing things in their own time.

Thanks for sharing how your children express themselves - we've thoroughly enjoyed hearing about their quirky tastes from an obsession with ELO to interior decorating with kitchen utensils... Hmm

This discussion has now ended. Congratulations to cathyov who has won a copy of Odd Dog Out plus £100 John Lewis voucher! Check your emails for more details.
