Rob Biddulph's beautiful new picture book Odd Dog Out is all about blazing a trail, and being who you are. To celebrate its publication, we're asking you to share how your mini superstars dare to be different.

It's a dog's life in the big city but one dog doesn't quite fit in. It's lonely being the odd dog out when all she wants to do is find her place in the world. She's willing to travel far on her quest, but it might take a different kind of journey for her to realise that maybe she's exactly where she needs to be.

A sublimely sunny and exquisitely illustrated tale about fitting in and standing out, from the award-winning and tremendously talented Rob Biddulph.

We'd love to hear how your little ones to express their individuality (and how you help them to do so) - whether it's insisting on wearing their favourite character costume 24/7 or only eating certain coloured food. For a chance to win a copy of Odd Dog Out and £100 voucher to spend at John Lewis, just tell us on this thread.

This discussion is sponsored by HarperCollins and will close at midday on 22 February

My little one has the best sense of humour. Always telling jokes and laughing.

claza93 · 08/02/2017 20:55

Through dance and music

buckley1983 · 08/02/2017 23:35

My son insists on wearing wellies.. every day.. whatever the weather.. & on the wrong feet. I tried to fight it at the beginning - offering a variety of alternative footwear, but he wouldn't be swayed. Now I just settle for the them being on the right feet :)

sarahbrokenshire · 09/02/2017 18:34

Through dancing- he likes to wiggle his little butt!

tekenaar · 10/02/2017 21:02

just let my child dress up in character costumes

SavannahLevine · 11/02/2017 21:27

My 6 year old DS likes to wear his hat over his hood so that it holds his hood on - he doesn't care if he looks silly or people comment, he just says but I like it like this.

He also likes to wear his shirts untucked (even his school polo shirts that are under his jumper - you just see an inch or so peeping out from the bottom) and his trousers tucked into his socks!

His teachers have given up trying to change him :) His uniform is always clean and ironed, so what does it matter if he won't have the collar on show or tuck his shirt in? He's only 6 and right now this is how he likes to wear his clothes, so I let him, I'm sure he'll grow out of it eventually and if he doesn't well thats fine too :)

My 2 year old is incredibly shy so doesn't really like to stand out too much. Therefore when he wanted to wear his monster Halloween costume out of the house a few weeks ago, I wasn't about to hold him back. However he got so much attention with people constantly stopping him to ask about it, that I don't think he'll be requesting to do that again in a hurry! Grin

Our 7 year old son loves to dance, he hears music and he actually can't stand still, he even dances to the buskers in town which they love because he draws a crowd for them and they watch my son dance and end up giving money to the busker!

My daughter used to love snails. While all of her friends would run around saying how horrible they were, she would give them names etc. She used to pick them up on the way to school and present them to her teachers. One lovely teacher always welcomed them to her desk for the day.

annarack99 · 14/02/2017 20:45

She yells "me" constantly and even thinks that is her name!

KnottedAnchorChief · 15/02/2017 09:32

DD wears her swimming costume all the time when in the house. And goggles on her head. She would go to school in it if she could, but has to make do with keeping the costume with her in her school book-bag instead.

ICanSeeYourPixelss · 15/02/2017 10:13

My son expresses his individuality by wearing his puppy dog slippers at every opportunity! Smile

ha2el · 16/02/2017 15:10

By insisting on wearing a bow tie to a family wedding when the rest were wearing ties.

angiehoggett · 16/02/2017 17:36

she loves to rummage through my wardrobe and make up bag, even down to giving her baby brother a make over, haha!

Portabella24 · 17/02/2017 19:10

My DS1 has insisted on wearing something in his favourite colour (red) every day. It got a bit challenging with school uniform but he has a red lunchbox and now his keys are on a red lanyard. We're used to it now but it was a bit odd at first.

grannybiker · 19/02/2017 13:05

By arguing with EVERYTHING! Grrrrrr, hoping it's a phase!

Smellophant87 · 19/02/2017 16:14

My 3 year old son expresses his individuality with his wild personality - he is always the child who is discovering a new, and usually dangerous, thing to do whenever we go out!

Sarah250187 · 19/02/2017 22:27

My 4 year old makes up silly words and shouts them out really loud- especially in the supermarket!

Iggy131313 · 20/02/2017 12:09

My little lad has a style all is own, I let him chose his own clothes in the morning and if that includes my net underskirt the. So be it....he will find his way 😊

xxgeexx · 20/02/2017 12:26

my son likes to draw this is his favourite way to express himself x

user1472646069 · 20/02/2017 16:49

Hats are a must and she wears them so well.

Blondie1982 · 20/02/2017 19:45

Loves dressing up

rocketriffs · 20/02/2017 21:56

My son expresses his individuality in many ways. One of the quirky things he does is re arrange the items on his dinner plate til he is satisfied they are in the correct place before eating. Silly me. I never put the food on the proper part of his plate.

buchanl79 · 20/02/2017 22:10

To express her individuality my daughter likes to pick her own clothes that I buy at the shops and she also likes to choose what she is going to wear at the weekends from her wardrobe

jamielmdjs · 20/02/2017 22:59

the little personality. laughing away in her own wee world. also singing to everyone, and then there's style - always wanting to dress over the top
