not too keen on david walliams books or 'dumping ground kind of books. def nothing girly.

The Hobbit was one of my favourites at that age. Also Goosebumps books, so many to choose from and so easy to get into the whole collection.

thanks, did the hobbit some time ago (reading together) maybe dc can read again.
goosebumps are fun, thanks.

I loved Agatha Christie at that age, and my DS also found them entertaining.

Street Child by Berlie Doherty is a modern classic, and usually well received. There is a sequel, about Street Child's siblings, but I haven't read it and can't remember what it is called!

Enchanted Glass by Diana Wynne Jones. And her other books!

Books by Eva Ibbotson. Check intended age range first.

Lemony Snicket books if not read already!

Percy Jackson series.

Some of dd's favourites lately:

  • Chris Ridell Goth Girl series
  • terry Pratchet children's series (I think I shall wear midnight might be the first but not sure)
  • my family & other animals
  • ruby Redford series
  • murder most unladylike (again a series)
  • classics like Anne of green gables; little women
  • spider wick chronicles/lemony snickett books?
