From picture book giant Oliver Jeffers and typographic artist Sam Winston comes a magical and unforgettable new story - which will encourage readers of all ages to question, explore and imagine.

A Child of Books tells the tale of a little girl who sails a raft across a sea of words and invites a little boy to come away with her on an adventure through a land of stories.

The book uses Oliver’s signature handwriting and artwork together with Sam’s typographic landscapes, shaped from printed extracts of 42 classic books and lullabies.

To celebrate the publication of A Child of Books, just tell us the book (or books) that first made you or your child love reading. Post your answer here for a chance to win a signed copy of the book, a limited edition print and tote bag, plus a brilliant book caddy to store your books at home.

The enchanted wood by roald dahl

purplevamp · 09/09/2016 21:15

My children loved reading the Gruffalo when they were little. They also love Houdini the Disappearing Hamster

Coffeechick · 09/09/2016 21:18

My daughter loves Malory towers and now other Enid Blyton books as well which she wouldn't pick up at the library before. She adores them and wants to go to boarding school. St Clare's is now next on our list of books to buy as a result.

HerRoyalFattyness · 09/09/2016 21:22

My son loved the gruffalo so much as a baby/toddler that we had to read 2 stories at night as he would insist on reading the gruffalo every night and I ended up bored to tears I can recite the book even now.

He's now 7. I bought him James and the giant peach today. He read it cover to cover in less than 2 hours.

I've read to all of my children since birth. My 2 year old and 1 year old love cuddling up with a story, and the 7 year old loves reading to them too. DDs (the 2 year old) current favourite is her new book "zog and the flying doctors" she has sat looking at the pictures all day, and we have read it 3 times before she went to bed.

Each Peach Pear Plum... I think I still know it by heart.

Theimpossiblegirl · 09/09/2016 21:33

Our favourites (most read and memorised) were We're Going on a Bear Hunt, Little Rabbit Foo Foo and The Gruffalo. At 14, DD1 still knows them by heart. It's lovely hearing her retell them to SDD & SDS.

farhanac · 09/09/2016 22:03

Oliver Jeffers is a favourite at the moment

melonpanini · 10/09/2016 00:00

The Milly Molly Mandy books kick started my love of reading.

cavalo · 10/09/2016 00:57

As a pre-reader my son enjoyed the rhyme and repetition of books like Peepo and Shark in the Park, Dr Seuss etc. He enjoys anything ridiculous (e.g. there's a lion in my cornflakes, the day louis got eaten...) and stories about Young People's Issues like going to school / sharing etc. He has just started school and now likes the Usborne young reader books.

jamielmdjs · 10/09/2016 10:38

I grew up reading the thomas the tank engine books. They came with an audio cassette so i read along to the tape which really helped my reading. The boys love their disney book.s

JoGibbons · 11/09/2016 15:01

My children love reading, I have to say that the Harry Potter books first captured their imagination and were lovely books to read to them at bedtime.

Chelsea26 · 11/09/2016 15:13

Good night Mr Tom was my absolute favourite! All the subsequent Michelle Magorian books were great too

Also loved Enid Blyton - esp Famous Five and all the boarding school books, Malory towers, red roofs and chalet school.

Black beauty and Heidi too and the Wilbur Smith children's books about the brothers in Africa

I could go on and on...

alabaster002 · 11/09/2016 20:14

The Famous Five!

CathBookworm · 11/09/2016 20:43

So many. I have fond memories of mum reading Peter Pan to us, tucked up i bed. We LOVED early all of the Enid Blyton books, especially Magic Faraway Tree. Milly Molly Mandy was a favourite too. I hope my sons end up loving reading as much as I do.

CordeliaScott · 12/09/2016 15:36

DD 2 loves Meg and Mog. She has had it read to her so often that she has virtually remembered all of the words and "reads" it to her younger brother (4 months), getting very cross if she doesn't think he's listening.

foxessocks · 12/09/2016 15:39

I loved Winnie the pooh when I was little. My dd loves each peach pear plum , stick man and the princess and the pea the most.

Mozarmstrong · 12/09/2016 16:32

Where do you start ? Books galore we read so some favourites were Thomas Tank and Mr Men and Enid Blyton then of course Harry Potter etc

Anj123 · 12/09/2016 16:32

From when she was 6 years old, my daughter loved Rainbow Fairy books and must have read about 100 of them! Now she reads Jacqueline Wilson books, and sometimes spends hours on end reading.

kateandme · 12/09/2016 17:10

yourgrace · 12/09/2016 17:34

Wind in the willows was my favourite as a child

hannahlubella · 12/09/2016 19:14

Heidi. It's the first time I realised how magical reading could be and that through it I could experience new places and things- wild Alpine flower meadows, a grumpy but loving bearded grandfather, deep winter snow...

Lovewatchingrainfall · 12/09/2016 19:25

We are lucky and love books in our house. I grew up reading and loving Winnie the Pooh. When my daughter was born and spent a long time in hospital I would sit and read to her every night Winnie the Pooh. She loves the hungry caterpillar, try's to be him too. Love the imagination and adventures that stories bring to children

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 12/09/2016 19:48

DD1&2 love being read to. Any book will do, but they both love the Mr. Men and Little Miss books. DD1 will read them to herself or to DD2 and DD2 will sit and pretend to read them, looking at the pictures and making something up.

agnapoop · 12/09/2016 22:25

The book I remember reading and loving was the faraway tree by Enid blyton. My imagination took me away to the characters houses as I read and I lived every page of that book. It had me hooked from then on .

buckley1983 · 12/09/2016 22:27

I have loved reading for as long as I can remember. My Mum always read to me as a child, & I kept many of my childhood books. My favourites being The Little Vampire series, Wind in the Willows & Brambly Hedge. I started a book collection for my son 15 years before he was born! Fortunately he inherited my love of books & we make weekly trips to the library to pick our books for the week. When my son was born, I struggled to know what to say sometimes - so books filled that void & gave me the confidence to chatter endlessly! He really enjoys books by Shirley Hughes - Dogger & the Alfie stories. He also really enjoys anything with dragons, monsters & pirates - typical boy! :) His current favourite is the beautifully names Sir Scallywag & the Battle of Stinky Bottom! Charming! :)
