From the multi award-winning picture book maker of A Bit Lost, Oh No, George! and Shh! We Have a Plan, comes a stunningly illustrated bedtime book, perfect for sending your little ones off to dreamland.

What Mumsnetters thought of Shh! We Have a Plan:

"A very clever book. My son was smiling and asked again and again for me to read it." Tabby33

"Chris Haughton's beautiful yet simple illustrations have all the family in hysterics" CANDH

In Goodnight Everyone, with Chris Haughton’s signature block colour design, we are introduced to bears, deer, rabbits and teeny, tiny mice – who are all beginning to feel really… rather… tired… YAWN!

“Dear me,” says Great Big Bear, “it must be time for bed!” But Little Bear is certainly not sleepy – he’s wide awake! For now…

With sublime starry night time scenes and an infectious repeating yawn for little readers to join in on, Chris Haughton creates a lulling bedtime read, perfect for parents and children to share together.

How do you get your children to sleep? Tell us your tips for a chance to win a bundle which will make bedtime a dreamlike experience - a Grobag, Gro-egg, Gro-clock, Gro-light PLUS a signed copy of Goodnight Everyone. Five runners-up will also receive signed copies of the book!

I used to bath mine and then read them a story to relax them before bed

ricola1 · 01/09/2016 11:26

Dinner, bath, story then bed!

freefan · 01/09/2016 11:45

We try and unwind as it gets near bedtime, a bath, some supper and tv. Then upstairs for a story or a chapter depending on which book they pick :). Usually always runs very smoothly with the odd little stay up slightly later for a birthday or special ocassion but we find that having a routine really does work best.

alabaster002 · 01/09/2016 15:58

A story and then lights out!

katyj182 · 01/09/2016 18:18

A consistent routine of bath, book, bed. We also play soothing music when getting PJs on.

Simey68 · 01/09/2016 21:16

It has to be a good bedtime read

KarenCBC · 01/09/2016 21:50

Routine - bath, stories with milk and then bed.
However, I wish it was as easy as all that. "bed" then can take up to an hour. DS doesn't like being left so we just sit quietly (in the dark) with him until he's asleep.
I've tried every trick in the book and this is what we've ended up with as its been much worse in the past!

clairet144 · 01/09/2016 21:51

Routine! Same thing happens every night wherever we are and all year round. Bath then downstairs in pj's watch an episode of Bing whilst drinking a glass of milk. Then 1 or 2 stories then it's up to bed. Have had a few nights where it doesn't work! But generally it's a happy night!

Tkw2014 · 02/09/2016 22:30

A bath and bedtime story. Also my son needs a night light but my daughter never has.

Elizasmum02 · 03/09/2016 20:09

we have a routine starting early, wind down then hour before bed no tech, a little red and some lavender tea ! light off

buckley1983 · 03/09/2016 23:01

Bedtime is quiet time in our house, something I very much look forward to! Starts with a bath with Johnson's bedtime bath foam & body wash (love that smell, sends me to sleep, never mind the LO!) After bath, it's into clean PJs & snuggles on the sofa to watch some gentle TV - used to be CBeebies but LO not so keen on that now so it's something low-octane which we agree on! Banana & milk while watching TV, then teeth cleaned & up to bed.
Mummy & Daddy take it in turns to read bedtime stories - we limit it to two otherwise it does tend to go on all night. After stories, LO gets tucked in & kissed goodnight. He has some glow in the dark stars on ceiling & a little hanging solar system which also glows in the dark, & this seems to entertain him until he nods on.
Bedtimes have suddenly become a lot easier for us - it was very, very hard at one stage & LO would try everything to keep us in the room, preferably in the bed! Many times, OH or I would fall asleep next to him & wake up groggy & disoriented! We managed to break the cycle by using a sticker chart & awarding stickers each night for successful completion of all bedtime tasks - teeth cleaning, bath, eating supper, going to sleep himself after stories.. took a couple of weeks but it did work!

It dose'nt matter where we are the routine is the same. Keep things calm 30mins before bed. A good story and into dreamland

sweir1 · 04/09/2016 09:18

We read a book every night

worriedmum46 · 04/09/2016 16:48

We have a bath and story time. Great black out curtains and a lullaby cd.

Number4OnTheWay · 04/09/2016 17:06

Melatonin. Knocks DD2 right out! Grin
The other 2 have a story and a lullaby (usually one that I made up when Dd1 was a baby that they both love Blush) and then lights out and sleep time.
We also keep the routine the same everywhere we go and they know it's bedtime.

ksouthcott · 04/09/2016 19:46

Have a routine for bedtime, it doesn't matter what it is (so long as it's relaxing) but then your children will recognise the cie that it is sleep time

Dessallara · 04/09/2016 21:14

Routine and telling that it's time for bed before getting ready :)

cocochips · 04/09/2016 21:26

A nice warm bath before bed always helps.

pfcpompeysarah · 04/09/2016 22:08

I don't think you can go far wrong with the old bath, pj's & a story routine before bed, works a treat, sometimes we have warm milk or hot chocolate for a treat.

RepentAtLeisure · 04/09/2016 22:43

Warm bath, then a book, ideally a short one. I once read George's Marvelous Medicine to my ds all in one go, then he looked around and said "What shall we read next Mummy?"

jamielmdjs · 04/09/2016 23:42

very faint music - enough to soothe, not enough to keep awake.

clarabella12 · 05/09/2016 01:01

routine is key, bath then bedtime story.

donnazz · 05/09/2016 10:35

our bedtme rountine is bath in the night garden bed time story

beckyinman · 05/09/2016 14:12

Have 10 minutes crazy jump around time, where they can run, dance, whatever, then into the bath with some lavender scents, straight into PJs then story time. Usually after all that they are ready for a nap!

mishknight · 05/09/2016 21:56

We have always had and still implement a bedtime routine, i.e, milk, brush teeth, story. No matter who puts her to bed or where we are, like at home or on holiday we do this routine and it works most of the time
