This is a very clever book. My son was smiling and asked again and again for me to read it. The nice thing about this book is it is simple enough that you can elaborate and add parts to the sorry. The pictures tell the story without the words. My nephew was telling me what he though the people were trying to achieve, which made me laugh.
The images are brilliant and stimulating.Read moreLess

"Captured the attention of our 18 mth old!…"
We love this book. Whilst the colours are deliberately limited, the illustrations are very engaging. There are not many words per page, which makes it a complete hit with our 18 month old. She is able to point at the images and loves being able to turn to the next page when she wants (as mummy and daddy have finished reading the text by that point). It has become a firm favourite in our house, and we would recommend itRead moreLess
"A book that gets the children talking!…"
I took this in to work (I work in a Preschool), and it went down very well indeed. It raised a lot of discussions - from what the characters would do next, to why they were trying to catch the bird in the first place. It has turned into a firm favourite!Read moreLess
"Sweet & Hilarious…"
Oh,how we love Chris Haughton's beautiful yet simple illustrations of utter hilarity. They have all the family in hysterics and the stories are sooooo sweet! My two children 5 and 3, love Shh! We have a plan and are now requesting it on a nightly basis as they still do frequently with George and Little Owl. Awesome!Read moreLess
"Beautifully illustrated, imaginitive read…"
A fun story that is perfect for reading aloud, predicting events and is open ended, giving you the opportunity to explore what might happen next. The illustrations are gorgeous. I'd definitely share itRead moreLess
"Minimalist chic and loved by my toddler…"
When I first saw the book, I noted it had little text and the colours were very simple (two tone blue mostly) and wondered whether the minimalist chic of the artwork was more appealing to adults than very young children. Well, was I wrong! It proved a massive hit with my 18 month old son who insisted on it being read again and again! The bold striking cartoons and repetition had an irresistible appeal to him and it is actually made it to the coveted status of being a bedtime regular that my son will select from the bookshelf. It's clever how it has somehow tapped into a child's psyche and sense if humour so well.Read moreLess
"Gorgeous illustrations and funny story…"
We won this from Mumsnet (thanks) and my five-year-old son says, "It's really good, I like it a lot. The little bird makes me laugh." It's similar in style to A Bit Lost, which we also own and love.Read moreLess
"Perfect for toddlers…"
We received this book as part of the March book giveaway. Both my toddlers enjoyed this book. It was repetitive enough that they enjoyed joining in, but they did not bore of the book. The illustrations and simple and made a refreshing change from other books on the market. I would recommend this book.Read moreLess
"Fab illustrations & Different from Normal…"
First impressions of Shh we have a plan were really good. I like the fact the book looks different and contemporary but still childlike. The book itself is really qood quality, a great size for reading (although too big for travelling)and has nice thick pages. The illustrations are predominately blue and white with the object of the story, bird or squirrel in bright colours. The story itself is simple and repetetive but amusing, fab for younger children. Recommended.Read moreLess
"Bold, bright and full of humour - will appeal from 4 to 44 year olds!…"
We're big fans of Chris Haughton's work and this was no exception. How hard could it be to catch a bird, especially when you have a plan?! But what happens when you hadn't planned on the birds fighting back? Try catching a squirrel instead, of course!Read moreLess
"A real winner…"
Really enjoyed this book- it is the first one by this author that we have read but we will now be hunting down his other books! There are four of us in the family so naturally the two children very quickly assigned us roles to correspond to the four characters. My 5yr old daughter did her best to help me read along and my 3yr old son giggled at the gorgeous illustrations all the way through. My two children actually went to bed arguing over which of them was the little one in the story. A real winner- would recommend.Read moreLess
"A lovely book with vibrant illustrations…"
We got this book this mornning as part of the Mumsnet childrens book club giveaway...my daughter could not wait to open it!
We both really enjoyed it - the contrasting colours throughout the book are very effective and the whole style of illustration is very striking.
The text itself is quite pared down, with only a few words per page, some of these repeated. This was great for my daughter (aged 4) as she could pick up on the repeated phrases and sound out some familiar words without being overcome by too much text.
I think it would be equally as good for a younger child, with the recurring phrases picked up so they can join in themselves!
It obviously made an impression, as my daughter spent a quite a while afterwards popping her head around door frames, looking very sneaky and 'shhh' ing me!
Enjoyable and lovely to look at - I'm sure we'll be reading this again very soon.Read moreLess

"Really good fun and little one wants to read again!…"
Got the book via March give-away. Read it with my 3 year old and she loved it! she asked me to read it again and again, and she started to repeat sentences from the book straight away.
Story line is very creative and very engaging!
Giving 4 star rather than 5 star as it would have been better if the book was not hardback; easier and lighter to carry!
Firmly recommend.Read moreLess

"Expressive, clever and wonderfully illustrated…"
'Shh! We have a plan' follows four hapless characters in the woods, looking for birds. The smallest, quietest one is ignored by the other three who are determined to get the bird by brute force. The story shows that diplomacy and understanding wins the day. Chris Haughton is a fantastic illustrator and clever storyteller and Oh No George is a huge favourite of my three year old son. We also have A Little Bit Lost and I think Shh will be popular too, DS loved the pictures and characters as well as the beautiful birds.Read moreLess

"Humorous and fun, with lovely illustrations!…"
This is the first Chris Naughton book we have read. My 6-year-old and nearly-3-year-old and I all loved it and, like one of the other reviewers, have already read it about five times since it arrived in the post today!
The illustrations have a bit of a retro feel to me. The colours are beautiful and the little details are lovely. So much to see and take in, even though at first glance this isn't apparent. Highly recommended.Read moreLess
"A beautiful simple tale, a future classic!…"
As soon as my little girls saw the front cover, they recognised the illustrations immediately!they are such big fans of A Bit Lost and could not wait to read this! Chris Haughton does not disappoint! My little girls were entranced by the pictures and story and there were giggles aplenty too! Such a simple yet beautiful book. My eldest really enjoyed elaborating on the story, and why the characters were trying to catch the bird, she thought they were silly and naughty! My youngest loved the different hues of blue (her favourite colour!) and the contrast of the gorgeously bright birds. Such a lovely book to read together and if sure to be another firm favourite! We have read it 5 times already since receiving it this morning! Would highly recommend it!!Read moreLess
"Here birdy, birdy!…"
Yet another delightful story from Chris Haughton, following the the success of 'A Bit Lost' & 'Oh No, George!'. Mr Haughtons distinctive illustration is a joy once again.
This story follows the exploits of four friends in an attempt to capture a beautiful bird, Shh! We have a plan. As it happens not all plans work out. A must read for all the family, not just children.
We own all three books, and all are regularly on the bedtime story list.Read moreLess
