From the multi award-winning picture book maker of A Bit Lost, Oh No, George! and Shh! We Have a Plan, comes a stunningly illustrated bedtime book, perfect for sending your little ones off to dreamland.

What Mumsnetters thought of Shh! We Have a Plan:

"A very clever book. My son was smiling and asked again and again for me to read it." Tabby33

"Chris Haughton's beautiful yet simple illustrations have all the family in hysterics" CANDH

In Goodnight Everyone, with Chris Haughton’s signature block colour design, we are introduced to bears, deer, rabbits and teeny, tiny mice – who are all beginning to feel really… rather… tired… YAWN!

“Dear me,” says Great Big Bear, “it must be time for bed!” But Little Bear is certainly not sleepy – he’s wide awake! For now…

With sublime starry night time scenes and an infectious repeating yawn for little readers to join in on, Chris Haughton creates a lulling bedtime read, perfect for parents and children to share together.

How do you get your children to sleep? Tell us your tips for a chance to win a bundle which will make bedtime a dreamlike experience - a Grobag, Gro-egg, Gro-clock, Gro-light PLUS a signed copy of Goodnight Everyone. Five runners-up will also receive signed copies of the book!

I put her to bed and say goodnight

Helloooomeee · 17/08/2016 08:26

Bedtime starts early with a bath if needed and pj's on, then cuddles and bedtime milk downstairs, then back upstairs to brush teeth, followed by stories in bed and bedtime music which never fails. Dc1 is 4 and a devil all day, but put his bedtime music on and it's like seeing black widow singing lullabies to the hulk! Grin

Love a bedtime routine, bath or wash followed by snuggles and stories. Dd likes her feet stroked and ds likes his hair stroked. Sometimes it feels so rushed as so many other things to do and then I go to bed regretting not just enjoying the quiet more. Nothing works for daytime naps though!

Bath
Story
Milk
Nursery rhymes
Use lavendar oil and white noise
Read same story and same nursery rhyme x

Our routine starts with tidy up time, upstairs to bath, story and cuddles, then into bed. Still have to sit in the room with my 11 month old until he's asleep but my 2.5 year old cuddles his bunny to sleep

Bedtime is the part of the day I look forward to most. Not because I get time to clean the house once the little ones are sleeping but because it's the time we start winding down and they girls become so cuddly. We start our bedtime routine by getting a bath or shower and getting into pajamas. Then we have supper and the girls each pick a bedtime story the want to read. Once story time is over we talk about our day. We each say our favourite part of the day and what part of the day was our least favourite and give reasons for it. With loads of goodnight kisses and cuddles they're usually ready for some shut eye.

The sound sleeper app is a life saver. Not only does the white noise send DD off to sleep but it also masks any noise we might make going to bed/in the bathroom/sneaking into her room to help Santa etc

Hopelass · 17/08/2016 19:04

As per everyone else really. Nice quiet routine. DS loves his gro clock and won't go to bed without saying good night to Mr Sun.
Recently discovered lavender oil, just a couple of drops on his bedding, works wonders! Its magic!

Strawclutching · 17/08/2016 20:59

A wing and a prayer. Both have exactly the same routine. One sleeps brilliantly. The other isn't so keen!

FeelingSmurfy · 17/08/2016 21:39

Consistent bedtime routine, calm activities before routine starts, plenty of warnings that it's getting to that time

Hadagutsful · 17/08/2016 21:48

Threats.

It's singing for us. Each step of the bedtime routine has it's own song or nursery rhyme associated with it and this really relaxes DS. A lot of them are ones where we have adapted the words to fit the activity.

He has always gone calm and still for music, whereas talking has always made him more lively. This was true even before he was born. I can see why he'd like DH singing but it did surprise me that he even appreciates my tuneless efforts!

coldofhands · 18/08/2016 12:02

We have quiet play after supper to wind down.
Then we go upstairs at 6 for bath, pyjamas, night garden then into the bedroom.
We say night night to the sunshine on the Gro- clock, and say hello to the star. We ask LO to remind us what happens if he wakes up and can see the star "shhh and sleep" Then whichever of DH and I aren't doing story and snuggles gets a night night kiss, cuddle and I love you.
Then LO chooses his story - at the moment one out of Goodnight moon (which I find creepy, but he loves, 5 minutes peace (the current favourite) and Guess how much I love you? Finally it's snuggles on our lap until he's dozy, then into his cot with a kiss.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 18/08/2016 12:25

Definitely a proper routine - bath, pj's, teeth, books, bed!

MrsA2 · 26/08/2016 07:29

Our routine starts from 7pm - bath time, our toddler then says night night to me and heads upstairs with Daddy. Teeth brushed in the bath (so much easier that way!), then dried, changed, white noise app on (a godsend) and into her cot. Am dreading transitioning her from her cot to a bed as she now sleeps so well in it!

PopsicleBopsicle · 26/08/2016 07:46

Same routine every night and a dream sheep! Our daughter has had one since birth and it's the only thing she can't sleep without now. She turns it on in the night if she rouses!

fitwell · 27/08/2016 11:14

experiencing a whole new routine with my granddaughter, during the day we try and get out and about as much as possible, lots of fresh air, then by the end of the day we are both tired,, so its a bath, cuddles last bottle then bed with her ewan the sheep

Maiyakat · 29/08/2016 21:18

We stick to a routine (clangers, stories, bath, bed). I am strict about staying in her room, give her an inch and she'd be running riot all night!

emmav6 · 01/09/2016 07:44

we always had quite a strict bedtime routine with my boys and i think it worked well. They always had their bath, story, music routine and even now have set bedtimes. We will do the same for my daughter and so far so good, she does like a nightlight and her music :)

Poocatcherchampion · 01/09/2016 07:48

We love these stories and we very often read them for bed - oh no George is my current favourite and I choose

Dh and I try to put our 3 to bed together; he normally gets the baby ready and I get the preschoolers sorted. Then we all gather for stories and prayers and then I take the baby off into his room for milk and sleep. The girls normally chatter or play for 30mins or so and then settle themselves for sleep. Calm but no nonsense is our approach.

7flipper7 · 01/09/2016 07:58

My youngest son can snuggle to sleep with an over active brain and will worry about the next day because he is worried he won't sleep so I often play a sleep relaxation audio from you tube to help focus and relax his mind.

Clairemike21 · 01/09/2016 08:22

We just try and keep to same routine, tea, bath, story , bed

ftovey7 · 01/09/2016 08:38

We ensure that there is no TV or anything else stimulating for at least an hr before bedtime, we spend the hr before bed having a quite bath and reading some favourite books

janeyf1 · 01/09/2016 09:17

I used to improvise a short & sweet Mickey Mouse themed bedtime story

bridge16 · 01/09/2016 10:25

Its all about routine! We have always had the same routine of dinner, bath, a little game, story and bed. The kids are tucked up at 7pm and asleep by about 7.10pm every night. Its so important to be consistent :-)
