When my girls are trying to make me choose a favourite, I always say I love them both the same. My eldest has taken to responding "Yes, but you loved me first!" which is difficult to argue with.

My DC are only 3 & 1 but they always want to 'win' at everything from who brushes their teeth the fastest / cleanest / quietest, who eats their lunch first, who gets up or down stairs the fastest, who gets in their car seat first, who can get dressed 'the best' etc etc....!!
I don't want them to be overly competitive but it is funny to watch sometimes (and can make getting ready / out of the house quicker!)

On car journeys we make up stories, each person adds a bit. They're often about big foots! The boys get very competitive when deciding what happens next and what 'evidence' is discovered!

My twin sister and I decided to make a contest out of eating. We "bet" who's got more pasta on the plate and decided to count it by taking individual pasta bits and putting it on the floor. I don't need to say our mum was furious as we wasted entire meal and she had to cook something else. Now after years it's a funny story that gets told during family meetings.

Definitely can be useful if I can turn it into a competition to see who can get out of the door first. Has also backfired at times though with a bit of pushing.

My brother's birthday is at the end of July, so was usually during the school holidays when we were children (he's now 46!). He was (is!) football mad and most years I remember he would get a football kit for his birthday. One particular year he got the new Argentina kit and was so proud of it. We went on holiday abroad and even though the hotel we stayed in had a pool, he spent most of the time in his new kit, complete with socks, parading around. One day, he had fallen into the pool somehow, and would have been struggling to swim, particularly wearing a football kit! I sauntered back to our parents because this was a great opportunity in my mind to get him into trouble - I told them that 'he's in the pool, with ALL his clothes on!' only to see my dad leap to action to jump in and pull him out (in the 80's, I can't remember seeing a lifeguard 😨). He was fine and so was his new football kit, and I remember being baffled about why my idea for getting him into trouble hadn't gone to plan.

The competition for the longest chip is a regular in our house. Little do they know it's fixed so they take turns to win!

Our two DS's bicker often, to the point we nicknamed them 'Dorothy' and 'Marjory'..... A few hours later lo and behold they are actually bickering over who is Dorothy and who is Marjory....

dAy in day out they compete with each other, on everything, from who is cleverer to who roller skates better to who is loved more. It is mainly driven by the younger one, a DS, who got his comeuppance at the last parents evening, where compared to his Sister, who has a lot of challenges, he got a rather crummy report. Oh how he wailed. I did feel sorry for him though.

I've got four kids, my favourite is when one is moping about looking bored so I ask them to help me lay the table..... The others immediately all drop what they are doing and insist they need to help ... I end up having to create jobs just so they can all "help"

My favourite was watching all four wiping down the table, I gave them a cloth each and they wiped it for ages and ages because they each wanted their bit to be the cleanest

If I have to buy one new shoes because their feet have grown, the other one will immediately say their toes are squashed.

I bought my 5 and 7 year olds identical rabbit toys for Easter. Being cheap toys, one was a bit bigger than the other and my 5 year old son had the bigger rabbit. His 7 year old sister wanted the bigger toy, but he wouldn't swap. So she told him his rabbit was older,so would die before hers did. So he swapped.

I have 4 y/o twin daughters, who don't argue much, but have recently taken to pushing their heads together when they do, like fighting deer.

I have no idea where they got it from But on the plus side they normally dissolve into giggles after a minute or so and the argument is forgotten.

TV remote is a big thing, even if they aren't using it they have to be the one holding it! At one point my sister said that one got to hold it and the other got to choose the programme, expecting that to be the end of it...they both wanted to hold the remote!

My eldest son was 2 when our middle son was born. In the car bringing him home from hospital, our eldest huffed and said "Don't want baby!". We have always laughed about it ever since. They are 14 and 12 now and are lost without each other!.

DD and DS turn everything into a competition: first one to eat their breakfast, first one to get changed, first one to brush teeth and first one to get their shoes and coat on. All v useful to get out of the house just about on time but very tiring to deal with the tears and general upset for the one who loses each part. DH has had to introduce a 'joint goodbye hug' as he was getting to work late having to do the actual goodbye and then console the one who lost which then set off the other as they felt an extra hug was given.

They are 3 and 5 and I'm hoping this phase of constant competing will be short-lived.

When my brother was born I was a very jealous 2 year old. New baby, urgh. My mother was putting us to bed one night when she said to me go on give him a big smacker, meaning a kiss. I apparently got a gleeful wide eyed expression and said "can I?!" I then proceeded to punch him in the face hard.

Ds2 once got very upset because he thought ds1 had more blood in his body. 'You've got more blood than me it's not faairrr'. I could not believe it.

When my older brother and I were young, my mum was in bed poorly with mumps. To cheer her up we had a competition as to who could paint the most walls in the lounge.
It was a nice idea, although the paint was thick black gloss paint, it was everywhere. She tells me it was in at the time!

When we were little, my parents took me and my brother on long walks. There was constant sibling rivalry between us (who could climb the highest, collect most conkers, walk in front etc). One time we ran ahead and found some sinking mud and suddenly it was who can sink the fastest...until we both got completely stuck and yelled blue murder till our dad rushed up to pull us out...and we both lost our wellies!

My Dbrother was so desperate to be the first one down the slide when we were kids, that he pushed me off and I broke my arm... My own DDs can make anything a competition- the usual one is every single morning they ask who's hair was the worst to brush..!

The first time my 2nd child was able to put two words together was to say 'Where's mine?'. Right from the word go she insisted that she had everything her big sister had. I'm sure she's going to end up as an equal rights lawyer one day!

My sister and I fought loads as children and I would always run to our mum and she'd go to our dad!

Having had no siblings myself, the relentless sibling rivalry between DS1 and DS2 has come as something of a shock! They can bicker over absolutely anything, but a recurring favourite is who loves mummy the most.
DS1 (8) who loves science, has taken to informing DS2 (3) that as his fist is smaller, then his heart is too as they are a similar size, so clearly the owner of the biggest fist...DS1, MUST love mummy the most! DS2 is never impressed by that logic

Ds1 and dd are hilarious when they start! They are only 4 and 2 but are very competitive with pretty Michu everything!

I remember once when I was younger, my sister had, for some reason, had a hairdresser come around to the house to cut her hair but not mine. When the hairdresser left I was so annoyed that mine hadn't been done too that i grabbed all my hair and cut it myself. Needless to say, I had to visit a hairdresser to have it fixed shortly after!
