Check out Robin Stevens latest series, which has got many girls hooked.

longdiling · 09/03/2016 18:14

Would she read non-fiction instead? My 9 yo Ds is a good but reluctant reader. He'll read things like the Guinness Book of Records or Horrible Histories or atlases or Gross Science books. I've given up on fiction, it was a losing battle.

SleepyForest · 09/03/2016 18:27

Goth girl? Harry Potter? What does she like?

Bryt · 09/03/2016 18:36

My DD 10 loved the Robin Stevens series, a murder most unladylike etc...

emmaMBC · 09/03/2016 18:41

Yes, Bryt aren't they brilliant. A new one is coming out next month.

StDogolphin · 09/03/2016 18:49

Percy Jackson
Dark is Rising

Too late for a bit of Enid?

WidowWadman · 09/03/2016 18:49

Goth Girl and Ottoline, both series by Chris Riddell

Bryt · 09/03/2016 18:55

EmmaMBC I pre-ordered the 4th one for DD. I rarely do that with a book.

Igiveupn0w · 09/03/2016 18:59

Mine is loving First News...published and delivered every Friday. Better than nothing -though I am tiring of her asking how I am going to vote in the referendum. She knows more about it than me!
I struggle to get her interested in any books though she is meandering through the first Ali Sparkes Shape Shifter book at a very leisurely pace. Her brother started on book one again straight after he had read the last one so they must be good!

nancy75 · 09/03/2016 19:02

Dd is 10 she has suggested
Witch world
Scarlett & ivy
Roof toppers
Wolf wilder
A murder most unladylike
Toms midnight garden
A traveller in time
Wings & co

ditherydora · 09/03/2016 19:03

Diary of a wimpy kid. Dd1 who is 8 loves them. It's really got her into reading

LurkonTAthread · 09/03/2016 19:17

Depends what she likes but mine have enjoyed:
Little house on the prairie
Wolves of willoughby chase
Goosebumps
Diary of a wimpy kid
Murder most unladylike (and rest of series)
The Hunger Games
My Story collection

Anything by Eva Ibotson (SP?) would be good. Star of Kazan, Dragonfly Pool.

Also try Lauren St John - she did 1 dollar horse and then has also written some other fab books which both my 9 year old and 12 yr old like.
Depending on ability - things like Neverending Story or Northern Lights are also excellent - albeit long.

YY to Goth Girl and Murder Most Ladylike
Lauren Child's Ruby Redfort books about a girl codebreaker/spy worth a look
Mine went through a Nancy Drew stage, courtesy of Grandad sourcing a load in a second hand book shop
How about graphic novels? Our library has quite a collection, my 11yo DD moved on to Agatha Christie after reading a graphic/comic book version of one!
