good clean young adult fiction

I'm looking for good clean young adult fiction. No romance vampires etc. Fiction that is like real life.

What age young adult? How about:
Gerald Durrell
Sherlock Holmes
Cider with Rosie
I, Claudius (hardly clean, but at least historical!)

Beyond the barricades.
The Dolphin Crossing
Anything by Rosemary Sutcliffe

I used to love the Sweet Valley High books. All clean, just romance.
How old is your young teen? I read them when about 12 or 13.
Also Lois Duncan books. Real life, but with a supernatural twist. Brilliant, loved them.

One by Sarah Crossan is just beautiful - about conjoined twins.

Finding Audrey is full of humour, despite tackling a more difficult subject. Brilliantly written.

and then there is The Art of Being Normal, incredibly popular, for good reason!
