Audio books for 4 year old

Any recommendations for good quality audio books on CD to play on the school run for my 4yo? We currently have Fantastic Mr Fox which DD is enjoying, so books of similar complexity would be good. If there is a particular version/reader that you'd recommend, that would be really helpful. Or ones to avoid too.

The puffin ones "stories for 5 year olds" etc aren't bad. I would say age 5 & 6 are a similar level to fantastic Mr Fox.

Dick King Smith's Sophie books (starting with Sophie's Snail) read by Bernard Cribbins. Or any other of his books, read by anyone at all, I remember listening to The Sheep Pig and Saddlebottom in the car as a child and loving them. The Sophie ones are just particuarly good.

I'd suggest the Narnia books but you need to think about if the theme's are appropriate (Aslan's Death etc.). There is a really good BBC dramatization if you decide to go that way.

Oh and the Just William books read by Martin Jarvis.

Great suggestions. Thanks. I used to love Dick King Smith books when I was a child so I might try and hunt those out

Johnny Morris Bedtime Stories are fab - nice and short, great voices.

Please try the musical audio-books 'Adventures in Mu Mu Land'.

Book One got a Mum's Net Best Award - see link below - and Adventures 2 has just been released on Amazon / Audible and ITunes and is equally engaging.

We have friends who find the material works with 4 to 6 years really well.

The new series has a great new 'boy' character - a talking, singiong, dancing dog!

Sorry if digitial downloads don't suit you on the school run, then the CD format is available from www.mumuclub.co.uk
