I asked last year for some book recommendations and I was rewarded with some amazing answers. DS1 and Ds2 have read and listened to many of the books I was recommended a year ago, but now, they've gone through them all and I am hoping for some more!

Wolf Brother, Darren Shan, Insignia, Gone, Bodyguard, Divergent were all good, especially Wolf Brother.

Can anyone suggest soem new ones?

Ancillary Justice trilogy if they like sci-fi (not specifically YA, but 13 y/o dd liked both a lot - main character is an AI from a spaceship)
The Wall by William Sutcliffe
More than This by Patrick Ness

Thank you for those - the all look good.

Spud by John van de Ruit - funny, thought provoking, different, boarding school set in South Africa

Noble Conflict by Malorie Blackman - dystopian future

Gods and Warriors by Michelle Paver - same author as wolf brother, set in Ancient Greece

Out of Shadows by Jason Wallace - Zimbabwe after Mugabe takes power through the eyes on an English boy in boarding school. Very good.

Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman - so well written and thought provoking, Very popular with teens, both boys and girls

Ds1 has just started to get into scary story. I'm sure he'll be reading stephen king in a couple of years!
He's really enjoyed this recently

Railhead, by Philip Reeve, is super.
Definite second vote for The Wall, by William Sutcliffe
My boys (10) also very much enjoyed the Pittacus Lore 'I am Number Four' series - it's a literary franchise, but very well done.

multivac · 24/10/2015 22:47

Oh, and there's a new Rick Riordan series just started, too; Magnus Chase. Norse gods.

Sadik · 25/10/2015 09:24

Thinking of Philip Reeve, DD says the Mortal Engines books are very good. They were recommended to her by her lovely English teacher, apparantly it's his favourite YA series.

motherwithheadache · 25/10/2015 19:31

IndridCold · 03/11/2015 18:55

Another vote for the Mortal Engines books. Also, Artemis Fowl. DS loved them at that age.

Also recommend the audio of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian read by the author.
