A fête worse than the Chalet School

Roll up, roll up!
Bid for a mortgage on the doll's house! Pin the tail on the St Bernard! Guess the weight of the handsome doctor! (Or pin the tail on the doctor and guess the weight of the St Bernard). Knit a lime green liberty bodice against the clock!
The Chalet School fête is open.....

Welcome Cel, shall I sheepdog? I should warn you now that stories about banshees and wild bareback riding are rather frowned on at school - though overuse of "at all, at all" is probably compulsory.
I have my 'fa la la la las' all polished Emily, though I think I've forgotten whose birthday it is this time.

morningtoncrescent62 · 26/11/2015 20:22

I'm consumed with Envy over EmilyAlice's tutu. Time for a snowfight, no?

Cel982 · 26/11/2015 22:36

Oh thank you, Elisaveta; I'll do my best not to develop a GP for you, but to simply admire you in a wholesomely devoted manner.

(And yes, I'm pretty sure the 'smutty finger' line appears in one of the books, though I can't think which...)

EmilyAlice · 27/11/2015 06:47

Where are you all? She is 97 today, for goodness sake! I have been singing away for hours, my golden voice is fading and my golden tutu is bedraggled...
Where is the rest of the heavenly choir?
We will never hear the end of this....

Sorry I'm late - I had to finish doing my hair in earphones in tribute. Aaah, don't the baby angels look adorable in lime green?

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 27/11/2015 21:17

They bring a tear to my eye, the adorable baby angels in lime green. Especially the adorable baby engelkind - still the loveliest baby of all at 92.
Now then - light country wine all round, followed by a quick game of slidey mats?

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 28/11/2015 09:48

Ooh and progressive games? Pleeeeease? I am a dab hand at needle threading by now.

hels71 · 28/11/2015 14:08

Oh yes, and I really want to pick up peas with knitting needles

morningtoncrescent62 · 28/11/2015 17:45

Enjoy yourselves. I'm sneaking out for a game of cards and a Mr Kipling apple pie. Coming, Nell?

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 28/11/2015 20:36

Grin Contract bridge and a cigarette, mornington? It's not yet Sunday, after all.

morningtoncrescent62 · 03/12/2015 12:28

Busted! A stray spark from my Saturday evening ciggy set fire to the coat-hanger angels and the entire place went up in smoke. Worse still, a boxful of gaily-dust-jacketed editions of Joey's latest novel, Malvina and her Great-Grandchildren Win Through was caught up in the blaze. I thoughtlessly flung a bucket of water over them instead of wrapping them in a blanket and rolling them over, and now they're all soggy. How could I have been so stupid? Miss A has thoroughly scolded me for my heedlessness and I'm spending the rest of the day in bed because I cried myself into a bad headache. I still don't know whether I'm dismissed as a baby angel - she's going to tell me later. Luckily for all concerned, though, there was a downpour which put the fire out so we're not actually homeless. That'll teach me to smoke and play cards.

Meanwhile, has anyone seen what the first of the prequels is going for on Amazon? Shock I mean, I love the Chalet School, but would anyone really shell out nearly £3000 for a fan novel, good though it is?

hels71 · 03/12/2015 16:57

Oh my! Now it is a good book but really!!!!!

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 03/12/2015 17:29

Oh dear mornington - but you're a real Chalet girl at last now, right?

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 04/12/2015 23:08

I've been trying really hard to fashion some new baby angel outfits from crepe paper and a pillowcase, but every outfit ends up looking like a Breton fisher girl Hmm.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 07/12/2015 19:52

Prequel-prequel has arrived! I am so tired at the moment that I have a permanent headache (I need Matey to put me to bed with a glass of special milk) but I am extremely tempted to stay up all night reading it...

morningtoncrescent62 · 07/12/2015 20:08

Envy Mine hasn't arrived yet - so don't get carried away and post any spoilers! (Though of course I know a good Chalet School girl like Nell would never consider doing such a thing.)

hels71 · 08/12/2015 08:15

mine has also arrived but has been removed by the husband to be kept for Christmas,.....

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 08/12/2015 11:46

I am only two chapters in but I am enjoying it so far. Grin

Witchend · 08/12/2015 13:16

Dd2 asked for more fill-ins for Christmas. I've been having a lovely time reading them first checking that they're suitable.

Witchend · 08/12/2015 13:19

I've also found a (good-) 1st Edition copy of The Gay Dolphin Adventure (Malcolm Saville, Lone Pine) for £1 last week, for ds for Christmas. Only cost me £1, so I was very pleased. I may have mentioned this slightly too many times in front of dh, who is so far unimpressed. Grin

morningtoncrescent62 · 09/12/2015 12:44

My copy of Home Front has arrived Grin but I'm aiming to save it for the holidays. It might not last that long, but that's the plan at the moment! Congratulations on your find, Witchend.

EEisaveta, I'm sure the audience won't be able to tell the difference between a baby angel and a Breton fisher girl once they've had enough light country wine what with the brilliant acting, simple faith and all. Keep on with the crepe paper, you're doing a grand job.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 09/12/2015 14:43

DS has, as usual bless him, chosen a beautifully convenient time to be (mildly) ill and so I've just finished Home Front. I loved it. But will respect the embargo on discussing it until after the Christmas readers have read it, at least. Grin And, did I mention already, I'm really excited that GGBP are publishing Eustacia in Feb! It's not an absolute favourite, actually there are things about it which really irritate me, but it is one I read and re-read, and one I want to own. After that, the only Tyrol one I'll still be missing is And Jo.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 09/12/2015 17:35

Vague wondering, inspired by a not-very-related thread in Baby Names: are the younger Maynard girls also all called Mary, or is it just the triplets? Is/was that fairly common, to do the Mary prefix for some daughters in the family and then not give it to the rest?
