My ds is almost 4 and loves looking at maps. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend any books with pictures of maps/about maps etc?
He loved the map of the 100 acre wood I Winnow the pooh for example.
Thank you!

Topsy and Tim books have a map at the back.

So does Milly Molly Mandy I think.

Katie Morag has a map of her island.

There is of course that huge tome, called 'MAPS'. That is something children like looking at.

Children's story books with maps;
The Black Rabbit (a lovely story too)
The Utterly Otterlys
Very Little series 'Red Riding Hood' is my children's absolute favourite

I was just about to link to the Once Upon A Map book. It's great.

First atlas? Others are available. Ds used to loved looking at the different countries and which animals came from where at about the same age

My Father had a wonderful book called "The map that came to life". It is a little old for a 4 year-old, although my Son liked it before he could read. It uses OS maps ... I believe it was (relatively) recently updated.

THE MAIN SITE, Ronald Lampitt,The Map that Came to Life, 1948 (1954)

Ah that's great. My DS (now 7) has been obsessed with maps since an early age. We've, over the years, bought him all different kinds of maps including kids atlas's, local street maps. His knowledge of geography now is astounding. He loves to challenge adults on capitals etc

The end papers of The Night Pirates are maps (fab story too!)
Maps which everyone recommends above is a wonderful book.
Nick Butterworth's Percy the Park Keeper series has beautiful huge fold-out papers at the end. I think it's The Secret Path that has a map.
After the Storm has a gorgeous treehouse which is very maplike.

AtomicDog · 09/06/2015 12:42

Oh- I just Google's, and there's a pop-up version of the night pirates- it looks awesome (and features rough tough little girl pirates)

BaronVonShush · 09/06/2015 12:43

Dinosaurs day out has a map that you have to use to help them find the way to their friends house. DS and Dd loved that book. Its nick sharratt.
