DS is maths mad but has just discovered he is v interested in physics - all that stuff about atoms etc. He is just 10 but in a year 6 class. Can anyone recommend any good books? He will be doing year 6 twice, which he is happy with - the school are fab and are stretching him, but I want to help that process! Thank you

There's a book Stephen Hawking wrote with his daughter, can't remember what it's called, but very good. It's fiction, btw.

Horrible Science of course.

DS (10) recommends What If? by Randall Munroe.

Richard Dawkins' Magic of Reality is good for all sciences, not just physics, but its atheist agenda is very full on.

Can You Feel the Force should be appropriate although DS turns his nose up at it as being for little kids Hmm.

All of Glenn Murphy's books are good: eg Space, Black Holes and Stuff

Thank you yesthisisme. We've done all the horrible science ones, he says he wants something more technical! Will look at the others thank you

If he's up for a bit more of a challenge then you could try It's Not Rocket Science by Ben Miller.

There are some ideas here

Also, David Macaulay's The New Way Things Work is great

Many of the books on that US homeschoolers' list are not to my personal taste (eg the one which explains how dinosaurs and humans coexisted) but I agree that Macaulay's The Way Things Work is a classic.

Richard Hammond
Can You Feel The Force

Great thread! Ds also almost 10 is keen on physics and has devoured all the horrible science books too. Thanks for recommendations.

Sorry! I posted the wrong link!

Creationism is not aligned to my personal taste either Blush

The one that I was looking for had this Manga guide to physics book among others. I am still looking for the list- will post again if I can find it.
