I want to buy a good version of this. Not something too childish but not so complicated one needs a history degree to understand it. Please can anyone suggest something?

Thanks very much.

I haven't read the latter, but the former is very good! And much more grownup than the usborne books.

You might want to take a look at the Book People website to see if anything
appeals. There is a Tony Robinson book, and a good Dorling Kindersley one. They also have the Usborne 'Kings and Queens' cards for just £1.00 a pack! DD loved these - one monarch per card with portrait, dates, facts etc. They are a decent size, and nicely produced - a great buy!

I love Our Island Story. I grew up on those stories.
