Any recommendations?

My dh wants to read more with ds but he is not a great reader (mild dyslexia) and says he would be happier reading something he could enjoy too.

Ds loves all books!

Q Pootle 5
Bob, the Man on the Moon
Winnie the Witch (not actually sf but similar tone and very funny)
Captain Flynn and the Pirate Dinosaurs

Or just get DH to go to the library with DS and flick through the picture books until he finds some things he thinks are good.

Can't think of any scifi for kids but I love scifi and really enjoyed the meg and mog series both as a child and reading them to the kids. There is more "fantasy" stuff I guess for 3yo Grin would that work? Witches and giants and things I can think of plenty.

Oh! Meg on the Moon! Which has the added bonus of being brilliant! Howzat?!!

WhirlpoolGalaxyM51 · 18/04/2015 21:13

The clangers?

carameldecaflatte · 18/04/2015 21:13

Thank you for those books, you've given me a great starting point.

I mentioned to dh about going to the library and he went a bit pale Hmm

super

carameldecaflatte · 18/04/2015 21:18

We're both into scifi too... just nothing suitable for a 3 year old!
I'll look out for Meg on the moon, thanks!

The clangers... I'm old enough to remember them and I've just found them again on youtube. I'll show ds tomorrow Smile

iseenodust · 19/04/2015 13:19

The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers
Aliens love underpants
The blackest hole in space

mistyegg · 19/04/2015 13:24

My children love Welcome to Alien School here

Here Come The Aliens also very good

Takver · 20/04/2015 11:54

'Dr Xargle's book of Earthlets' is fun

SummerLightning · 20/04/2015 12:01

"Weasels" and "Lost in Space". They drive me slightly crazy, but my kids love them.

Also not science fiction, but mine like the good old Usborne Space, "lift the flaps" book.

YesILikeItToo · 20/04/2015 12:05

Mr Wuffles might suit. Pretty much wordless picture book about a alien spacecraft crash landing under a sofa. The cat (Mr Wuffles) that lives in the house is fascinated. The tiny aliens are terrified and must use all the resources under there to get airborne again.

SummerLightning · 20/04/2015 12:05

Also "Whatever next" by Jill Murphy.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 20/04/2015 12:10

Could he "tell" stories rather than read them? DD loves nothing better at bedtime than DH telling her a story which, more often than not, is the plot of a film he loves. Her current favourites are The Hulk and Thor stories

GooseyLoosey · 20/04/2015 12:14

Astrosaurs - dinosaurs in space.

Ds has loved them since he was little and even now (at 12) will revisit them if he feels tired and wants something to cheer him up.

schmalex · 20/04/2015 12:21

Toys in Space by Mini Grey is fab.

carameldecaflatte · 21/04/2015 21:25

Sorry I missed all the messages!
Thank you for your brilliant recommendations, I have a long list for the library now and dh is quite looking forward to reading them with ds.
Thank you again!
Smile
