So ds1 announced he would like longer stories. So any ideas on starter chapter books. I.e short and sweet chapters that form a big story?! Open to all suggestions. He is five.

DS2 is 5 and he enjoys us reading:

Dinosaur Cove
Skylanders stories (if he's into Skylanders)
Space Penguins
Astrosaurs

and Dino FC

Reading himself or read to him?

Groovester · 06/02/2015 16:06

My DS is 5 too. We love Horrid Henry, Dirty Bertie, Mr Gum and the Claude the dog books.

Magic tree house, Jack Stalwart, Dixie o'Day; if you're reading to him also Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf, mrs pepperpot

Thanks for the suggestions. Due to hearing loss he has speech and language delay so we are only at the very beginnings of him learning to read so it is very much me reading to him at the moment.

My 4 year old ds is really into Enid Blyton at the moment. The Wishing Chair has quite short chapters and he loves it. We started on The Book of Brownies which he also loved but it had very long chapters and bedtime took forever!

I second the Magic Faraway Tree Series. DD is 5 and loves those. Also the Magic Wishing Chair, again Enid Blyton and similar stories. I used to love them all as a child.
