Best Phonics/Learning To Read Books

My DD has been learning sounds and is very interested in what letters make what sounds. She can sound out her name and recognizes a few letters by their sound, rather than name. My husband and I would like to encourage this and would like to get some books for her. I was looking at the Songbirds collection by Julia Donaldson, which seems good. I also don't want to have her learning something at home and then go to school and have it be something else completely different. Any recommendations?

Usborne do fantastic phonics books, and they also do reading scheme books which follow the national curriculum. I sell them but think I'd get into trouble for linking to my site! Google them though, even if I don't make the sale, I'd still recommend them.

When DS started to take an interest in reading, we went to the library and got a selection of books to try. We soon found which ones suited him (he liked the Usborne ones where the adult & child each read a page). I also got the Songbirds collection when it was on offer at the Book People - I think I used a discount code too.

We are planning on going to the Book People Warehouse sale this weekend, which is why I wanted to know. Hopefully they will have something good. Thanks for your suggestions.

Can you get the Bob books in the UK? They are great, they come in little boxes and start out very easy but get a little harder with each set. I really recommend them.

We liked Songbirds very much for Dd2, bought whole set cheaply off book people. Proper phonics fitting in with what they were taught at nursery. Ds1 had read write inc and liked those much less. Have a look on Oxford Owl to get a feel of the songbirds ones.
