Second hand children's books

Now that the car boot season is over I'm struggling to find good sources of children's books. Not much choice at the charity shops in my area, so other than eBay where do you buy good quality used books. Any ideas? TIA.

Christmas fairs at school, local library selling old stock and some cafes/NT places have honesty stalls.

How about using your local library? That way you can have new books every week.

Oxfam have some very good "Books Only" shops do you have one near you,a lot of the students locally go to one in Liverpool Bold Street I think (I'm not sure ) they sell on line also.

We're frequent visitors to our library , there service is fantastic and they've been very helpful in ordering in additional books from within the county for example, we've now borrowed all 8 of a 9 book series but they can't get the last but one book so I want to buy it for DD for xmas. I've found it online on AbeBooks so will order it now.

Good idea about Xmas Fairs coming up I'll look out for local ones.

As well as secondhand bookshops, junk shops often have a box of books which can be very variable in quality but are generally cheap.

Thank you glamma, we don't have one near us but after checking on the website I can order them online. Off to peruse their range now!

Place a wanted on freegle or a local Facebook selling page? I've just sold 20 books for a tenner, and have given books away in the past through freegle.

I would second school fairs, we are moving and I have just given 4 ikea bags of kids books to the school fair!

I'd rather get them from the library or buy new so that the author gets royalties.
Unless they're dead, in which case I get them secondhand from charity shops, etc!

ABE Books, BadgerBooks and GilBilski's website are very good for sourcing children's books that are now out of print.

abebooks are good, I generally find that you can get most of the old favourites very cheap from there

The Children's Bookshop is really good, I've bought quite a few books from there and never had any problems. Well priced too.

I must admit that I just tend to buy box sets from Book People, unless somebody has been kind enough to buy us a book token, or get them from the library. We are lucky to live in a town/county where there is book-sharing between neighbouring counties. It costs DD nothing to order a book from a library 15+ miles away, though we sometimes have to wait a few weeks.

There also seem to be plenty of secondhand (but fab condition) books on Amazon and Ebay (look at the reviews and decide whether you are happy to buy from a tax-dodger).
