Hear ye, hear ye! Gather ye hence, all angels (be-costumed with slightly tacky silver halos and suchlike) with your lark-like notes and prepare to dazzle us all with your charm.

No, not you Joan. Shop bought cake and cheap looks for you, my dear. See Matron for some milk on your way out.

Hello my honey lambs. I've neglected you sorely - lost this thread then never got round to finding it again but just bumped into 'Veta elsewhere on the Platz and though I'd drop in for some of Mdlle's nectar-like coffee. What's the hanes?

EmilyAlice · 24/01/2015 06:02

Pay attention Princess. I said 1€56.. (£1.16). Very nice it is too, pink or white.

morningtoncrescent62 · 24/01/2015 19:07

Oh I think you should persevere with Adrienne, Nell. It may not be the most believable of EBD's plot lines, but it's one of the funniest.

So it's cava and shop-bought cake on the roof at Emily's holiday hideaway is it? I'll bring sheets and pillowcases and then we can really party in style.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 24/01/2015 20:45

Ooh, ooh, can we have paper games too? And raw bacon, and sardines on cake?

EmilyAlice · 25/01/2015 06:57

All ready for you. Have salted almonds and grilled sardines from the beach cafe rather than shop bought cake (think cake is baked stale in Spain). Turn left st Malaga and it is the twirly orange building on the hill. No possibility of confusion with any of the others. Grin

hels71 · 25/01/2015 08:22

Hope you have plenty of paper, pencils, dried peas and knitting needles for those all.important progressive games.....

EElisavetaofJingleBellsornia · 26/01/2015 23:47

Excellent, I will bring the really fun one where you see how many needles you can thread in a minute. Gales of laughter with that one. Though I am still confused by our relocation to Spain, did I miss EmilyAlice emigrating? Welcome back back Lonny, you'd better dash and unpack your things in the one and only Matey approved way, and put in your velveteen for the festivities!

EmilyAlice · 27/01/2015 06:41

Just a little winter sunshine on the Costa del Sol, Princess. I have met dear Lavender's Aunty, adopted two nice young policemen who rescued us when we got lost in Toledo and bought a powerful wireless because the apartment owner thinks 500mg a week provides enough internet
Sardines, cava and a progressive roof terraces party game are all ready....

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 27/01/2015 09:22

I hope we've all got our trusty Guide cords for the inevitable moment when a girl 'progresses' off the edge of the roof terrace...

DeWee · 27/01/2015 09:29

I think the eyes of needles have grown much smaller in the last 6 months. Alas I suspect you cannot say of me any more "those eyes that never needed glasses".
although I'm winding dh up by offering to hold things at the other end of the room when he's trying to read

morningtoncrescent62 · 27/01/2015 16:18

Oooh, goodie, a powerful wireless must mean you can get the BBC so we can make like grown-ups and have radio parties. Come along then girls, it's off with the brown-and-flame/gentian-blue-and-scarlet, and on with the lime green. I wonder what's playing on the Light Programme tonight? Hope it's something we can sing along to.

Nell, what did you decide to do re Adrienne?

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 27/01/2015 16:32

I've actually just this minute finished it. Grin

I am glad I've read it, though at the same time am certain I never will again! Elements of charmingly bonkers but quite not to the same degree as Redheads (or Althea or Ruey ). The ridiculous 'relation of Robin' thing is unnecessary I think - Robin getting a cameo in a swashbuckling nun rescue is good enough and story enough, isn't it?

Glad I read it because it is a book where Some Things Happen. Notably Len deciding her future (darning Reg's socks) is settled, and the bit where EBD seems to counsel against early marriage as a rule but knows that Jo is somehow exempt from this. Not satisfying reading, but relevant to bigger plot arcs.

Also I do like Ailie/Janice/Judy - a welcome break from the fascinating-tedious Jack Lambert!

But... Yeah. Not worth a second read!

I took DS to nursery in the sling whilst wearing my good coat today, which I clearly hadn't done before because it was astonishingly hot. So I stand corrected, tying lengths of material on top of your coat (and not round your poor exposed neck) apparently does have a very warming effect!

EmilyAlice · 27/01/2015 16:45

Mornington we have got Housewives' Choice, Wildred Pickles with "Have a Go" (Mabel at the table), Workers' Playtime (blank moment on apostrophe location), Dick Barton and Mrs Dale's Diary.
Sadly I remember all these.
You will not need your scarves. Today has been sunny and hot.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 28/01/2015 11:04

It is snowing here. I just put the recycling out in a blizzard and had to feel my way back to the front door. Thankfully DH Gaudenz had installed a fence so I could feel my way back.

I feel quite, quite exhausted now

morningtoncrescent62 · 28/01/2015 11:41

Now I'm going to be humming the theme to Housewives' Choice all day. Um, thanks EmilyAlice. Good luck to everyone who finds themselves in the middle of a blizzard today. Remember, don't lie down and go to sleep in it or you will die. Oh, and try not to be carried off by any evil disinherited princes because RufusBruno finds it so hard to follow the scent in newly-fallen snow and he'd rather be tucked up in his nice warm kennel.

I'm reading this at the moment. I haven't decided yet whether I like it or not. But it's whiling away the time while I wait for Champion to arrive.

EmilyAlice · 28/01/2015 13:47

Glad you like the earworm Mornington. Dah de dah de dah de dah de dah dah...
Lovely here again today, SLOC was wandering round Malaga in his shorts, though he did get some funny looks from the Spanish who are all swathed in coats and scarves (worn stylishly rather than crossed).
Take care in the snow all of you.

hels71 · 28/01/2015 17:23

I've Benn humming Dick Barton........

EmilyAlice · 28/01/2015 18:27

The one I can"t hum is Mrs Dale. "I'm so worried about Jim" (Jem?).

EElisavetaofJingleBellsornia · 28/01/2015 22:37

I want some snow Envy How will I ever follow Mddle to become an Alpiniste if it justs stays cold and grey?

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 29/01/2015 09:45

It's very sunshiny today. Must remember to wear my snow glasses later, don't want any cases of snow blindness. How the DCs will howl though!

morningtoncrescent62 · 29/01/2015 18:58

I hope you didn't cross your toes, Lonny.

I'm struggling through St Mallory's Forever - I'm about halfway but it's not grabbing me. I gather it's a collaborative effort between two writers and two schoolgirls, so there's insider knowledge of what girls' boarding schools are like now. And that's quite interesting. But the main plot line (a mystery) is doing absolutely nothing for me and I don't like or feel strongly about any of the characters, either girls or adults.

By the time I was taking notice of the radio, Mrs Dale's Diary had changed to The Dales and I think was the theme music. But it might not be the one you're thinking of, EmilyAlice - Professor Google tells me it wasn't the theme music for long.

No snow here either, sigh, though it's very cold. Whisper it softly, but I'm glad because I hate snow. It looks pretty for a couple of hours, after which it either turns to life-threatening ice or depressing grey slush. For days. I know it's not properly Chaletian of me, but I'd rather be spared.

EatingMyWords · 29/01/2015 23:12

Ah, but it doesn't do that in the alps Mornington! One of the new girls says that once and they tell her the alpine snow is magical pixie dust which never goes slushy, or something.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 29/01/2015 23:59

But yes, it's like powder, then there's a bit of damp which keeps us in for a mere week, then the wind comes and then it's all ok and we can go back to Freudisham for wor tea.

Except when the floods come.

UniS · 30/01/2015 09:32

Why hasn't Jack / Jo ever fitted a zip wire from freundsholm to the school. Then Jo could always visit with out fear of damp stockings. She could go first and then whatever baby it is she is trailing around could be sent along in a big wicker basket.

morningtoncrescent62 · 30/01/2015 11:09

Oooh, yes, a lime green zip wire. Just the thing. Poor Bruno, though - I have visions of the poor thing harnessed to the wire, his little doggy legs flailing. Anna could use it as a washing line when it's not needed for transportation purposes.
