My twins are just turning 2 and I'd like to get them some new books for their birthdays. We have all the 'classics' for this age group from dd (7) so was wondering which newer titles are good for this age? Thanks :).

Id suggest the Hairy Maclary range. Lots.of shortish rhyming stories about a group of very well-named dogs (Bottomly Potts covered in spots!) Love love them.

DD also enjoys
No-Bot
The Crocodile Who didnt like the Water
Lost and Found (about a boy and his penguin)

My DD who turned two a few weeks ago loves "Snatchabook" and "Something Else" and "Dogger" and "The Day Louis Got Eaten", "oh no George" and "A bit lost" and the Emily Brown books.

The Dark - Lemony Snickett - is a great favourite with my 3 year old who only likes scary books!

My 2yo likes:
The Fearsome Beastie (I think it's scary, but he loves it!)
There's a Shark in my Bath
Oh no George
Whiffy Wilson

Have a look at Oliver Jeffers' picture books - they are fab. There is this counting one, and you must try The Day the Crayons Quit!

Little Lou is also utterly charming.

The Way to the Zoo is also lots of fun.

Happy reading!!!

Splat the Cat, and Fergus' Scary Night, are two not-quite-so-well-known ones that my 2.6 year old loves.

My 2 year old loves It Takes Two To Twit Twoo It's a lovely story and one of my favourites too. It has beautiful illustraions as well. Not one that I'd seen before and I'm a teacher so am normally up with the good kids books!
