if DS loved the Invention of Hugo Cabret, what else might he like?

He is seven. He reads well for his age but is sensitive to really scary stuff. He loves adventure/science/fantasy sort of things.

I've ordered the first Harry Potter from our library; iirc it's not too frightening.

Any other suggestions?

The Arrival by Shaun Tan is a wonderful graphic novel as is his The Lost Thing, The How to Train Your Dragon books and the Artemis Fowl ones are very popular. Some Michael Morpurgo might be suitable and Roald Dahl.
