Funny / silly / fantasy books for an 8yo boy

DS1 is 8. When he was younger he liked Roald Dahl, The Magic Faraway Tree, Mr Pinkwhistle, Horrid Henry and Captain Underpants. He recently really enjoyed Fortunately, The Milk by Neil Gaiman.

He doesn't seem to get on so well with more serious books, eg Beast Quest, Michael Morpugo.

Any recommendations please?

Terry pratchett has books for older children, truckers, diggers and wings would suit his taste I reckon.

Space Penguins is pretty silly!

My year 5s (so a bit older but friend read it to y3) we're entranced by The Iron Man.

It's not silly or funny though.

has he read any David Walliams, they are brilliant as is Roddy Doyle's The Giggler Treatment.

Agree How to train your dragon. Maybe Jeremy Strong books and has he read all the wimpy kid books? All the David Walliams books.

The Grunts series could be right up his street, in addition to Oliver & The Seawigs ... keep an eye out for Cakes in Space by the same authors which will be published early September.

The Tom Gates series by Liz Pichon is incredibly popular & worth a try too.

Space Pirates series by Jim Ladd (!) published by Nosy Crow has been very, very popular in our house too.

My DS is currently reading, and enjoying, Stick Dog.
