Early chapterbooks?

DD1 is getting to the stage where she can listen to a slightly longer story and doesn't necessarily need the pictures too so i have started reading Milly Molly Mandy to her. I have broken some chapters in half as they are very long for bedtime but she's really enjoying being read to. I would love to start lining up some other starter chapter books for me to read to her. She doesn't start school til September and is not advanced in letter recognition etc so will be a long while before she is reading I would think.

Mine really enjoyed My Naughty Little Sister, The Faraway Tree, Paddington Bear. I stayed away from anything too simple as it would bore me, and I figured time for those is when they can read.

Not quite chapter books, but suspect she'd like Katie Morag, Janet Reachfar, and Winnie the Witch for older children. Also, how about Claude books (Alex T Smith), and there was another one. I was thinking about, but having a wine-induced senior moment. Will be back if I remember ...

She loves Katie Morag (as do I) but haven't heard of the orders, I will google - thank you.

my girls are now 5 and 6 and either both have enjoyed or the elder one has enjoyed reading to herself ....
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Naughtiest Girl in the School, Super Sister (just finished it - by Gwyneth Rees), Paddington, Mr Benn, Milly Molly Mandy, Winnie the Witch, Laura's Star (2 different length types of story available, some are long picture books and some are early chapter books), Enchanted Wood, Faraway Tree, Folk of the Faraway Tree, Wishing Chair, The Worst Witch (there are now 7 of them) erm Magic Molly, My Naughty Little Puppy, The Rescue Princesses, Zoe's Rescue Zoo.

Usborne Young Reading Series 1 has some good ones in, my 2 liked Stories of Mermaids, Stories of Fairies, Stories of Dolls, The Incredible Present and their favourite The Princess and the Pea. Mairi's Mermaid, The Quick Brown Fox Cub, The Wrong Kind of Bark, The Witches Dog books by Frank Rodgers, some Dick King Smith.

The Violet Mackerel series is a beautifully written one, with lovely pencil illustrations making the jump to chapter books quite fun.

Try Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf - each chapter is a self-contained story in which the wolf tries and fails to eat Polly. My DC enjoyed this as a bedtime story from about age 4/5, ditto My Naughty Little Sister which follows a similar bite-sized formula (and DC still enjoys listening to both of these at age nearly 8)
