Books for toddlers

I have so many books on my children's book shelves and at 2 and 3 tey love nothing more than curling up with me and listening to a story.
However most of their books have been bought for them by my inlaws mainly and are completely age inappropriate and we end up reading the same 3 or 4 books every time.

I'm getting bored! So I'm going to bu them some new ones and need some recommendations (as well as putting a list together for the inlaws as they love buyin books but always get it wrong)

So far I have
The very hungry catapiller
The gruffalo
Room on the broom (I think that's what's it's called!)
Any others that should be on a toddlers book shelf?

(We have Disney's Snow White, the little mirmaid and some hard board fairy tales)

The tiger that came to tea.
Anything written by Shirley Hughes.

Anything Julia Donaldson. The Snail and the Whale is particularly charming.

Each Peach Pear Plum and Peepo have lovely rhythms and my DD loves them.

Lynley Dodd's books are brilliant - Hairy McLary, Slinky Malinki, etc. They introduce big words to children and are so much fun.

Elmer, bear hunt, owl babies, one ted fell out of bed are current favourites with DS aged 2. He also likes the Thomas books he got for as a present but I hate reading them as they are so dull.

My kids couldn't get enough of Someone Bigger repetition and rhyming makes it good for younger listeners.

For more recent publications I head (very quickly) towards;
Jon Klassen's I Want My Hat Back & This is Not My Hat are great fun. Wonderful presents.

Chris Haughton's A Bit Lost & Oh No, George! are particularly good for this age group. Short engaging sentences, and FAB illustrations.

Oliver Jeffers - The Hueys are great!

Finally, Nick Bland's The Very Cranky Bear is really good to read out loud, with a good opp. to put on a scary bear voice!!
