Book suggestions for child almost reading Horrid Henry

My D'S is just about able to read the Horrid Henry Early Readers and I'm looking for something that can lead him to that level. He reads on his own and silently but he just needs to build his confidence.
The school use ORT, 360 and Ginn and I do have the ORT books up to level 6 that I got from the Book People but was hoping to find something different to the series he has at school..... If for no reason other than my sanity as I would gladly cause pain the Biff & Co.

I am not sure what level the Horrid Henry Early Readers are - there was a discussion about it recently on here and some people thought they were about level 6ish but others thought they were harder.

you could try the Usborne Beginners series - all non fiction and all book band 8, huge number of topics to choose from and very interesting.

or Usborne Young Reading Series 1 is mostly book band 10 but they have big font, pictures and seem like quite a nice read compared to Jackdaws ORT books we have had from school... Otherwise The Lighthouse Keeper books are available in chapter book format now so have a bigger font but still colour illustrations which would build his confidence as they appear to be chapter books but are actually 2 picture books in a chapter book.

I share the pain with Biff etc. on DD2 now and she is on book band 7 at school but I have started sending her in with the books she is reading at home - Usborne Young Reading ones - purely because she is so much more interested in them. I leave it up to the school whether they let her read it or get her to choose one from school but for me it is far more important she is enthusiastic about reading. She is only in R so I don't see there really being any problem with her reading the sort of things she wants to.

I'll try some of these. I don't quite understand the levels as he comes home with all sorts but I know he is working books out for himself and even though the school gives him ORT5 for example he read 6 and more to himself.
I was looking for good stories to capture his imagination and encourage him.... so many of the books are just a little beyond him now.... I know in 6 months he'll be ready but trying to bridge the gap. ...
