I am to be a godmother in a few weeks and thought a nice present would be a really classic collection of childrens stories/fairy tales etc.

doea anyone think that is a good idea? and what would you recommend. sadly book people dont have a winnie the pooh/ potter collection on at the moment!

My DCs each have a big hardbacked book from my aunt, given when they were born, which have been treasured ever since. They are:

Winnie the Pooh Collection
Alice in Wonderland
The Wind In The Willows

Classic books, all with lovely illustrations.

I bought friend's DD a beautiful copy of Classic Fairytales of Charles Perrault

HotSauceCommittee · 07/05/2014 17:37

Grimms Fairy tales; perhaps the version illustrated by David Hockneys engravings, if you wanted something more quirky when they were grown up?
The Richard Scarry books are great too. So much detail.

My DD got a beautiful copy of Aesops fairy tales and fables for her birthday. I was really touched.

I think that's a wonderful idea! I'd second the suggestions for Alice in Wonderland and Winnie the Pooh. How about also adding in a copy of your favourite book too, with a message written inside?

'Classic' picture books would be The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Where the Wild Things Are, We're Going on a Bear Hunt ...

hmm well wind in the willows is my favourite so perhaps I should go for that
