The Ordinary Princess by M.M. Kaye

I read this as a little girl until the book fell apart, haven't seen it again since long before I left home. Anyway my sister got me a copy for Christmas and I've just reread it in the bath. It's like coming back to an old friend. Such a refreshingly simple story telling the adventure of a nice plain tomboy princess and a happy ending.

I just love this story.

I love love love this book. It is just so wonderful. Yes it's about princesses and magic but it's not at all twee or Disney-fied. I thought it was brilliant and was very happy to read it to my 6 yr old DD. It was just a chance finding and she reads it herself now.

I re-read it about a million times as a kid and adult too! Need to read it again. Great book. "You shall be ordinary!"
