My DD loves Peter Pan especially the pirate parts. Can anyone recommend any other pirate books, suitable for 5-6 year old? Thank you!

My Granny Is A Pirate. fad rhyming picture book, funny.

Captain Najork and his Hired Sportsmen. Not quite pirates, but very close and lots of crazy Quentin Blake pictures.

Captain Pugwash (there are books as well as the telly!)

Happy Families by Janet and Allan Ahlberg: I think there's a pirate one (have a quick google and check!)

My dd used to love My Granny is a Pirate. Have just ordered this from the library for her. Not sure what its like but seems to have pirates Smile

The Pirates Next Door is good - really funny, detailed illustrations, and a nice message about not pre-judging people by their appearance and reputation.

Captain Flinn and the pirate dinosaurs by Giles Andreae (series of 4)
Mungo and picture book pirates

My six year old has loved the Sam Silver series - slightly formulaic, but enjoyable adventures of a modern boy who travels back through time to become a pirate in the Carribean way back when.

I second Mungo & the picture book pirates. Fab.

The Night Pirates features a troop of little girl pirates.

My eight yr old DS has been pirate mad since he was three. I second all the above ideas, including Treasure Island which I thought might be too hard going - but he was completely gripped by it. At six or seven yrs we gave him Piratology, which he adored: lots of flaps and envelopes and secret codes and even a sachet of 'real' pirate gold dust, plus a lot of history about real piracy. If your DD is anything like my DS, she will love learning all the facts to teach you! Arrr.

The Night Pirates is a gorgeous book.

My 3 also like the Mungo one.

I second The pirates next door and The pirate cruncher. DS loves them, and they are not awful to read out loud.

DD2 is reading this series at the moment, I got a pack of 10 of them from the book people for about 5.
