Kids book about a girl called Aroura - any idea what this is?

I'm trying to remember a book I loved when I was a child, but I can't remember very much about it.

It was about a girl called Aroura, which meant "sunrise", who lived in a tower block, and her father painted their car blue with red hub caps (or maybe red with blue hub caps?) so she could tell which one was theirs from all the way up in their flat when they looked out of the window.

More things than that happened, I just can't now remember any of them Blush

Does that ring any bells with anyone?

Wow. You've just dragged something out of my brain that I haven't thought about for 35 years. Aurora and Socrates. Google it, that's what you mean isn't it?! I loved it too

I had 2 of these. One has disappeared but dd1 has Hallo Aurora upstairs. Dad was SAHD doing PhD in philosophy I think and scary Cnut upstairs turned out to be lovely (but neglected) boy. Was also a princessy type neighbour whose mum was clothes / image obsessed. Anne-cath Vestly was author.

I nearly fainted when I saw the asking price on Amazon! Shock

WOOOOOO thank you! Yes, those are the ones - how on earth could I have forgotten that her brother was called Socrates? Poor little blighter.

Ouch at the prices, yeah. Obviously never been reprinted. Will have to keep an eye out for them - which will be easier now I know what they're called, anyway!

I managed to find Hello Aurora for a few quid and am reading it now, it really is as good as I remember. I didn't realise that they were so old, first published in Norweigian in 1966! They have aged very well.

How do you think her name is pronounced, BTW?

In my head it's A-roar-a, but should the first syllable be pronounced "Or"?

Oh, I have quite a few of them, in Norwegian.I loved them! Nice to know they have been translated to English

Oh my goodness - I remember Aurora, and I remember thinking it was quite the most gorgeous name!!!

On tv over Christmas was a film version of a story that again, I hadn't thought about in years - Ramona and her sister Beezus. The books that I recall were Ramona the Brave and Ramona the Pest. Happy days!
