7yo reading good chapter books - what audio books would she like?

DD has trouble getting to sleep and she gets too tired to carry on reading but still cant drop off so we've been experimenting with audio books and would love some reccs.

We have Dahl on tape plus the Borrowers, Just So Stories and the Worst Witch. Any other classic retellings you can recommend? For reading she has enjoyed Pippi, Emil and the Detectives, Holly Webb's Maisie Stories, Ronald Dahl, Wind in the Willows. Thanks.

My dd (just 7) loves A Little Princess, Sophie's Snail, Puffin stories for 6 yr olds + 7 yr olds & The naughtiest Girl. She also likes listening to her sisters Jaqueline Wilson CDs. We also have Lemony Snickets, Just So Stories, Roald Dahl's CD 's in the car.

Dd is only allowed them at the weekend because she'll lay awake listening, rather than dropping off to sleep !

If you want classics specifically, what about Paddington Bear?

If just good audio books, David Tennant reading the How to Train your Dragon books (I think it is DT? - good anyway)

DD at that age also had the Famous Five and Naughtiest Girl in the School done as BBC audiobooks - she loved them but I wouldn't recommend them if you are going to be within earshot (except for 'Timmy' who was clearly a bloke going 'woof, woof')

A bit different, but when dd was that age & having trouble sleeping, a friend gave us a copy of this CD - definitely helped her to relax & get to sleep. (This one looks a bit less pinkified though actually the princesses one isn't that naff.)

The library have loads to choose from.

My DS has just enjoyed Dahl and how to train your dragon too so watching thread with interest.

Really helpful suggestions. Hadn't thought of the library but that is a good idea. Will definitely get the relaxation cd too - and some of the others for xmas. thanks all.

I just got dd toms midnight garden and she loves it, she also likes the secret garden and Emily windsnap. Dd is 8 btw.

David Walliams' books work really well in audiobook format. He reads them himself and really brings them to life.

The man that writes those no 1 ladies detective books has done a couple of childrens books. Dd has an audio one called precious and the monkey, she really likes that, also the gorilla who wanted to grow up- she has become a gorilla expert thanks to this cd!

My 6 yo likes the audio versions of The Railway Children, Black Beauty, The Secret Garden, Anne of Green Gables, Wind in the Willows, Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Horrid Henry etc

She's read them as chapter books too.

Ballet shoes by Noel Stretfield. Such a classic just posted audio to my niece!

Mine still enjoys the Princess Poppy both picture book audio and chapter book. She is 9 and Dogger and Alfie and The Large Family are still enjoyed too! I got her The Secret Mermaid series on audio she doesn't like scary things either but these are gentle and formulaic (like Rainbow Magic!) she likes them. Also her beloved Tracy Beaker!
