Ultimate Children's Reading List?

For various reasons, I'm expecting to be asked what 9mo ds would like for his christening, 1st birthday, Christmas etc. I just have that kind of family I would love him to have lots of books - dp and i are both avid readers - ones to read to him now, that he can read to us in a few years, that he can read alone when he's bigger...

So, MN, what's on your ultimate reading list for kids?

Dr Seuss books are much loved here. There are two tiny ones ... Mr Brown can moo and one fish, two fish. Green eggs and ham is lovely regardless of how young they are because it's so expressive.
Hug. A lovely book with only three words. Hug, mummy and bobo. Good fun.
