I need a book to read to year 4, set in the times of the Norman Conquest. (We are trying out the new history curriculum at our school. Hmm) Any suggestions? Henty seems too old for them.

My db had one called Greyback about a village of Saxons who are given a Norman overlord. The story is written from the point of view of the Saxon Lord's son. It was a Sunday school prize though, I think the new Norman was Christian but I don;t remember it being overtly so, you can probably skip those bits.
I think they start off being very antognistic to the Normans, but gradually become friendlier. William the Conqueror makes a brief appearance at the end.

Found it here:

ebay may have it cheaper.

Might be a bit tenuous, but "The Stones of Green Knowe" Lucy M Boston

'Harold Was My King' by Hilda Lewis might be worth a look. link

This website is brilliant, although I can't see Normans immediately!
However, it might be worth a look too.

Great ideas! Now I am going to have a choice. Hmm

I do love the website, and have wasted spent the last half hour reading through synopses of books I loved when I was a child. May well have to do some re-reading. (But I didn't find the Norman Conquest.)

Another tenuous one but Robin Hood has the Saxons and Normans as a backdrop and there are lots of interesting versions. Not directly about the conquests though.

Oh yes, lots of versions for different ages and a DVD for the end of term possibility!
