Does anybody know this book

Hi just wondering if anyone recognizes this book? Ds says that it's about a child whose mother pins some money to his vest. The child falls sleep on the underground and when he wakes up its gone. Ds says he would like to read it. Does it sound familiar to anyone? Thnx

Sounds like Emil and the Detectives to me. It's a train not the underground I think though, and it's originally a German book.

Wonderful book. By Erich Kästner. And yes, it's when he's on the train going to Berlin.

Definitely Emil and the Detectives, the mother pins the money inside his top jacket pocket, he is going on his first journey without his parents, when (eventually) he gets his money back, he knows it is his as it has pinpricks in it when he holds it to the light.
