What funny chapter books would you recommend?

Hi, my daughter is 8 years old but has SLD. She's just become ready for chapter books, which I read to her.
She loves Roald Dahl, and anything funny. What would you recommend?

My Naughty Little sister, Sophie Stories by Dick King Smith

Anything by Jeremy Strong.
Hilarious, and quite short.

Another vote for Jeremy Strong.
Anne Fine can be good, too.
Wimpy Kid diaries (all the rage in yr4).
Fudge stories (Judy Blume).

Kitty stories by Bel Mooney - kind of like Little Princess but for a bit older

The Worst Witch and The Naughtiest Girl in the School both have funny bits in and are nice easy to follow stories I think.

My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish by Mo O'Hara is very good. I second Jeremy Strong too.

the Professor Branestawm stories by Norman Hunter, about an absent minded professor who makes crazy inventions, are hilarious.

The Moomin books by Tove Jansson are full of quirky humour and surprising happenings.

the Pippi Longstocking books by Astrid Lindgren are very amusing, about a super strong girl and her more ordinary friends.

the Jennings books by Anthony Buckeridge, set in a boys prep school, are very amusing.

The Clumsies, by Sorrel Anderson is funny both for myself reading and the boys listening, don't be put off by the quirky typesetting.

Any of the Mortimer books by Joan Aiken amuse us all too

I second Mr Gum - we have the box set from the Book People and the first three on CD. The kids absolutely love them, and they have reduced me and DH to tears of laughter. Absolutely blooming brilliant.

At the junior school library the popular picks are Diary of a Wimpy kid, Mr Gumm and Tom Gates books.

I would really really recommend the Roddy Doyle 'Meanwhile' kids books - The Giggler treatment and two other. Really funny.

Mr Gum really tickled me, but went straight over DS's head. He's 6. I will try again next year.

I think you'll find the abominations by Jenny Smith will be just right - funny, well written, fab illustrations - a real hut with all mine!

We tried some Jeremy Strong (ds is 7) but - erm, disappointingly we found them a bit boring.

The next one was by a new writer - J.L.Smith - the Abominators. It was so fresh and a genuine page turner and proper cliffhangers ( a la Eastenders!) at the end of the chapters.

Highly recommend seeking it out!

The Rescue Princesses aren't funny stories but the feisty princesses have lots of adventures - great books for little girls.
