LGBT books for children

I'm looking for some books for DS (8) which are age appropriate, and feature homosexual relationships rather than every single book he has which ALL involve heterosexual ones. It drives me crazy.

All I can find are actual children's books for little children, or tee fiction which I fear might be a bit too sexualised for an 8 year old.

So, basically fiction books, all words no pictures, any length (he reads all the time so flies through books) which feature lgbt relationships, whether predominantly or as a side.

Anybody know any suitable titles?

Can't help, but will watch the thread with interest. I can think of lots of YA fantasy that would fit the bill, but nothing for an 8 y/o. Will also ask dd if she can think of anything.

I can recommend some great teen fiction but nothing in the 8-11 bracket that I can think of and I've done a fair bit of looking. Really rubbish, that.

Was going to recommend some picture books, but those are too young. Will ask around.

Tabby McTat is great in that it includes a lesbian couple but it is too young for the OP's DS. It is fascinating how picture book authors seem less constrained in what they can do than authors in the middle year age range. There is a book by Hannah Moskowitz called Marco Impossible that looks like it might be suitable though as it is aimed at American middle school (9-13) kids and she is a good writer. But otherwise all LGBT-themed books seem to be for 13-17 year olds and most of those are American. It passes understand why more children's writers don't include gay characters in their books.

There's The Case of the Stolen Scarab and its sequel The Case of the Vanishing Valuables (can't find that one on Amazon UK) -- sort of Nancy Drew-type mystery series but the protagonists have two mothers.

Also A Clear Spring (protagonist is staying with her aunt and her aunt's partner) or
Box Girl (protagonist lives with her father and his partner). Depending on his tastes Box Girl might be slightly old for him, because it's more touchy-feely rather than full of action, though it's not really a teenage book either.

Possibly So You Want to be a Wizard (protagonist is mentored by two wizards who happen to be a gay couple).

Or The Manny Files (in the background to the story there's a developing relationship between the manny and the narrator's Uncle Max).

This one is supposed to be really good.

Case of the Stolen Scarag looks great Tolliver. I didn't know Nancy Garden wrote for younger readers. Her Annie on My Mind is a great LGBT teen novel.

Anyone read Hero by perry Moore? I found it on good reads a d have ordered it but not sure of the suitability, might be a bit old for him.
