Book for Christening present - boy

Hello

I am to be the Godmother of my friends 4th child, which happens to be her 2nd son. They pretty much have everything and I asked my pal what she would like me to buy her little boy, and she suggested a book. I could easily choose a girls book, but am really struggling with boys books (not having read them as a little girl myself, and having a daughter). Any ideas?

She's not really into Winnie the Pooh, or anything too classical (hope I'm not making her sound uncultured in anyway!)

I bought my goddaughter some noah's ark wooden bookends (from an online shops called hearts and crafts), they had a personalised plaque bit on the back. Then every yearn her birthday I buy her one of the penguin cloth bound classics for when she is older.

How about a robinson crusoe, gullivers travels, or moby dick nice version for when he is older?

there are some real classics, but plenty of more recent works too

If those are too classical then I think anything really! My daughter loves the same books as her male cousin, I am not sure there a 'girls' books and 'boys books'? Favourites involve the Gruffalo, Thomas the Tank Engine books and Tyrannosaurus Drip.

Instructions by Neil Gaiman would be ideal for this. It's a lovely book, almost a poem (ok so it doesn't rhyme or anything but it's lovely poetic language). It's sort of the instructions to follow for if you happen to find yourself in a fairy story and what rules will get you safely to the end.

It is animated - I love it and have read it to DS at least twice a week since he was about 3 months old, and he loves it too and can recite most of it.

the traditional gift from a godparent is a bible. there are children's ones or, more accessibly, books of bible stories for children. this should be inscribed with a suitable message from you.

My son was given a second hand copy of Pilgrims Progress and Blake's Poems. The books are beautiful and he loves looking through them now he is older.

The Chronicles of Narnia are excellent. Aesop's fables also a good choice.

Neither are actually a bible, which he may get a few of for Christening gifts, but both are pretty apt.
