The Book People - poor customer service

I ordered 3 books from them which arrived today. In a bag, not the usual box. It did have a bit of bubble wrap lining but the books weren't secure inside and hence 2 were damaged. On one the corner had actually split open.

So I phoned the Book People who made a note and then said Customer Services would contact me to get the books replaced. I would get a call 'within 3 days' as they are v busy with calls from over the weekend! Angry

I think that's not on, firstly to send the books out with little protection and then have to wait 3 days to speak to someone about it. Anyone else had problems with them?

I've used the Book People lots and have never had a problem with them. In fact, a book arrived today - in the bubble wrap bag rather than in the box. All was fine. Can understand you're annoyed though about being expected to wait 3 days for a proper response as you might well have ordered Xmas presents. Hope you get it sorted sooner than that.

I've had awful service waiting 8 weeks plus for a refund. The reason they gave was they were very busy - in October! I had to chase 3 times and never received an real apology or explanation.

I have had one parcel where the books were very slightly damaged but have to say that I didn't complain - would have done had they been pressies for other children though. I think it might be the courier to blame rather than them per se, although there is an issue with books not been well-enough wrapped. I'm always annoyed because the courrier always leaves the parcel on our doorstep in full view of everyone who passes, even though there are plant-pots behind which they could hide it!

I've always had fantastic service.

I order loads and have done for years, never had any damaged, often arrive in the bags which I use again.

Only problem I've ever had was half an order that didn't turn up from Red House(same company ).Customer service were fab(very nice) and replacements turned up 3 days later.

I agree that the company itself has always been great when I've contacted them - but they really need to change to a better courier. They leave parcels in full view, in torrential rain , etc etc.
