I bought a box set of Enid blyton Malory towers for the bargain price of a fiver today, am wondering which niece it is most suitable for, one is 8 one is 10.5

I'd say probably the 8 year old, though it depends on her reading level. But I think you're safer as she will definitely grow into it.

I have a 10.5 year old and a lot of her classmates are reading Hunger Games, Alex Rider, that sort of thing.

I was going to say 8 too.

Thanks Smile

I remember loving them but no idea what age I was

I would say 10 if they are not nearly 11 and not 8 unless they are nearly 9 based on my dd's and their friends

I think 8 too, my daughter was 8 when she read them and she loved them.

I would say 8 too. My 12yo passed them down to her little sister when she was 10yo.

I would say 10 as the girls in the first book are about that age and the series spans their secondary school years. That said, the are a fairly straight forward read. I gave a set to my 10 year old niece and she loved them. She is an able reader too.

I spoke to Sil and I'm going to give them to the 10 year old on her recommendation, she can pass to you get niece in time. Thanks everyone Smile

I read them until I was 13....more of a nostalgia thing but still.

Lovely present Smile

DD is 7 and has just started reading the first one. Seems to be enjoying it so far although not sure quite how much she understands the world of boarding school yet :)
