Best book about puberty?

DD is nearly 8. Her two brothers have gone through puberty (are now 17 and 15) and she has plenty of friends with big sisters whom she has seen grow breasts and hips and "become teenagers" (her description).

She is beginning to get interested in when she becomes a teenager and has started asking me whether she thinks her breasts are beginning to grow (no!). I would like to buy her a nice book about puberty (not about sex) for girls and boys. Any ideas?

'What's Happening to Me' (its an Usborne book) is very good. The only thing is that it comes in 'girls' and 'boys' versions, which you may not like if you'd prefer a book that covers what happens to both sexes.

(I haven't seen the boys version, but the girl one does talk briefly about what happens to boys, but in less detail.)

I read Hair in Funny Places by Babette Cole to my daughter, now 8 1/2, a couple of months ago and it felt just right. I wanted to talk to her about puberty as she's developing fast. Seemed to go down ok. It's very much a picture book and aims to take an entertaining look at puberty - not at all textbook like.

My nieces have a nice book on growing up called 'The Care and Keeping of You'. It doesn't go into sex or relationships and is possibly slightly old fashioned in tone but covers puberty well for young girls under ten.

I don´t know if this is still around, but when I was at school, we read "Are you there, God?, it´s me, Margaret" by Judy Blume and that was my favourite book for a long time. It´s mainly about Margaret finding her identity where she comes from a family where one set of grandparents is Christian and the other grandmother is Jewish. But as an 11 year old, I was fascinated by the descriptions of friendships, bras and periods.
It is by no means a text book about puberty, but it was a brilliant companion for me.

THIS BOOK is brilliant for younge DCs, it's very informative, but in an age appropriate way, there is also a boys version too. I bought a couple of other books that were recommended, but once I had them & checked through them, they were in no way suitable foran 8 yr old, these definitely are.

So funny & reminds me of a friends DS a few years ago at 9 - he was very withdrawn for a while & something was obviously bothering him & she was worried, but he wouldn't talk to to her - so she rang his Dad & asked him to have a word & get to the bottom of it

He told his Dad he was scared because he had an "infection" in his willy & it kept swelling up - his Dad put him straight that it was erection, not infection & it was perfectly normal -
