She's a keen and able reader, about to start secondary school, but I've noticed recently her bookshelves look a little bare.

She's recently read:

All the Harry Potters
Holly Webb books
A lot of Jacqueline Wilson
Nancy Drew
A lot of classics - the Railway Children, What Katy Did (and next etc)! A Little Princess, the Secret Garden etc

What else could she try?

Roman mysteries
Series of unfortunate events
Lady Grace mysteries
Julia Golding - cat royal series

Musomathsci · 01/08/2012 23:19

Warrior Cats series - very popular with my 11 yr old at the moment. By Erin Hunter. NOT all about fighting!

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 02/08/2012 00:51

The Companion Quartet (and I forgot the author's name, but they are eminently googlable Grin )
Percy Jackson
Skullduggery Pleasant
Anne of Green Gables
Little House series
Anything by Monica Hughes
Anything by HM Hoover
Robert Swindells, although Stone Cold and a couple of others are for older children, and some would possibly be a bit young - you'd need to check the blurb - Timesnatch, Eater of Worlds, and the Outfit series are good.
Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer
Keys to the Kingdom by Garth Nix. I love these and hate Abhorsen, they're aimed at a somewhat younger reader than the Abhorsen ones are I think, the first one is Mister Monday and they go all the way to Sunday now.

BlueChampagne · 02/08/2012 13:53

The Little White Horse
Wizard of Earthsea series
Children of Green Knowe series
The Dark is Rising series

BlueChampagne · 02/08/2012 13:54

Watership Down?

amck5700 · 02/08/2012 23:00

The Hunger games
Knots and Crosses
Tunnels

thaliablogs · 03/08/2012 00:38

I think it's noughts and crosses amck - and yes it's good, poss a little old for her

Sounds like she could cope with the Hobbit

And she will LOVE Diana Wynne Jones. I would start with 'Charmed Life' or 'A Tale of Time City' or 'Homeward Bounders'. A few, like 'fire and hemlock' or a couple of the more recent ones are poss a bit old for her. But all the chrestomanci ones will work for her now.

amck5700 · 03/08/2012 09:35

thats right thalia :) - i couldn't be bothered to go upstairs to my sons room to check! I haven't read them so no idea at what level they are, but my 10 and 11 year old boys have read and enjoyed them,

KittenMitts3 · 04/08/2012 20:34

If she's into ebooks try 'The Message'

lljkk · 04/08/2012 20:52

Dogsbody, D W Jones again.
Artemis Fowl, Alex Rider, Jane Blonde, Sprite Sisters, Meg Cabot, The Dork Diaries.

Dancergirl · 06/08/2012 20:33

Thanks for all the suggestions. Went to a fantastic bookshop today and she chose the Cornelia Funke Ink trilogy. Should keep her going for a while!

The Undrowned Child by Michelle Lovric is a brilliant book, set in Venice - I would have loved it at 11!

goingtoofast · 14/08/2012 17:15

Does she have a reading list from her secondary school - DD did and it's been really useful.

She had some of the following on her list -

The London Eye Mystery - Siobhan Dowd

Underworld - Cathy MacPhail

Angel Cake - Cathy Cassidy

Once (Once/Now/Then/After) - Morris Gleitzman

Flood Child - Emily Diamand

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - John Boyne

FranSanDisco · 14/08/2012 17:22

DD is 11 yo. She is currently reading The Emerald Atlas but has also recently enjoyed The Hunger Games and Unhooking the Moon.

goingtobefree · 14/08/2012 23:58

Dd11 really enjoyed casson family,Hunger games

exexpat · 15/08/2012 00:17

Eva Ibbotson's books for older children might be just right - Star of Kazan, Journey to the River Sea, and The Dragonfly Pool.

Peeenut · 15/08/2012 00:22

Holes?

NoComet · 15/08/2012 00:33

No sorry you wanted good ideas - not what my 11y is actually reading (the joys of big sisters Hmm)

Kayano · 16/08/2012 11:58
