Not something I have read with the dc's although we read quite a lot together. Have rhyming books and such like. How do I introduce them and make it fun? Personally never have been into poetry but would like them to have an opportunity.
Any book recommendations welcome. Thank you

I've got a book called "Read it and Laugh: a funny poem for every day" which has lots of good poems - you could read the day's poem at bedtime, let your dc look up their birthday poems etc etc.

These are fun but I would say more for your older DC.

Any of Michael Rosen's books - especially Mustard, Custard, Jumble Belly and Gravy (and especially if you can get the audio CD that goes with it). My DD (now 7) has loved this for a few years and for a while was listening to it so much that she started talking like a Michael Rosen poem! Grin And if you ever get a chance to see him live at a children's books event you MUST as he is so fab and really makes poetry so funny and relevant for children.

Also, I have recently bought my DD Please Mrs Butler by Alan Ahlberg, which has lots of poems about school life - I loved it as a child and it obviously hasn't dated too much as she has really enjoyed it.

If you have girls then try the flower fairies. My DDs love them. Short poems, beautiful illustrations, flowers, fairies...my girl's idea of heaven, and I love them too.
