Books for a 7 y. old technically minded boy

I'm looking for a book for my 7 y. old DS which could be used for his 'rehearsed reading' at speech and drama class. The excerpt would need to include speech / dialogue.

DS prefers non-fiction which is not suitable for this purpose. The only fiction book that I remember he truly enjoyed was The Haunting of Pip Parker (I loved it too!) Also, - being a bilingual family - we rarely read in English at home.

Suggestions please - ? We have 2 weeks to decide. Thank you so much Thanks

Has he read any Professor Branestawm? I wonder if some of his mad inventions might appeal . . .

How about the Astrosaurs? The Robot raiders has some geeky (prob totally inaccurate...) stuff about computer controlled cities and robots and a rocket engineer who just happens to be a dinosaur.

Come to that, why not the book you linked to, if he likes that one?

Thanks - will try Professor Branestawm and Astrosaurs, both look promising.

Takver - yes, his favorite 'Pip Parker' might well be the one! I have already ordered it from Amazon, as the one that DS read was from school. But additionally I want to take this opportunity to introduce him to other good fiction books and ask him to choose between several options.

Went to the library and got:

  • Anne Fine Ivan the Terrible - really enjoyed it. Read yesterday. Hillarious, and about a bilingual kid, just like DS.
  • Francesca Simon Horrid Henry and the Secret Club - started reading.
  • Roald Dahl The Enormous Crocodile
  • Judy Blume The Pain and the Great One
  • Astrosaurs Riddle of the Raptors
  • Michael Morpurgo Cool

Looked at the George's Secret Key to the Universe but it looked so heavy! (just in terms of the number of pages). Will definitely try it though, next time.

Professor Branestawm wasn't there.
