I think Julia Donaldson is great for 4 year olds. What interests does your DC have? Do they enjoy a wide range of picture books? Maybe wiht a bit more info, i can give you some more recommendations.

Check out this topic generally, as there are lots of threads recommending books. Also, have a browse on Amazon and Red House books as they will be able to point you in the right direction. And don't forget your friendly local library!

I've just introduced the Mr Men books to my DS who is 4. He loves them. Some are a bit dull to read, but most are quite fun.
